Happened on the same mission as the cruise ship fiasco... (you'll have to read my first cruise ship encounter thread)
Wounded a T3 and I'm finally working my way back to finish her off. Due to my masterful maneuvers (BdU shoulda gave us these uber-cameras earlier!) I find myself in an interesting position.
Directly ahead of me at 700M is a 3 ship traffic jam. The wounded T3 and two fletcher destroyers are stuck in momentary gridlock. One of the fletchers backs up slowly and is blocking the movement now of the other DD. The ships seemed to form a capital "I" now with a DD sandwiched in the middle and a T3 barely moving on one end. The stern of the sandwiched DD is maybe 25-50M from the T3 in the I formation.
I visit the TDC with the intent to take out that sandwhiched DD while I have the easy shot. Set a T1 for 2M and fast impact. Up scope... As I survey the scene and set crosshairs on the DD I can't help but debate the idea of unloading one of my scarce fish on such a low tonnage target. Exec's about to pull the plunger... Ready Tube One... STOP!
Back to the TDC, depth 13, mag-det, slow speed. Back to scope... crosshairs on T3 midship, NOW EXEC FIRE THAT THING! ...before I change my mind.
A beautiful silvery bubble trail streaks past the two horrified DD's and swims right under the T3 where intended, KABOOOM! The T3 cracks in half.
Now, here's where it gets interesting. Stuff is exploding and flying off the T3. Some flaming debris actually hits the nearby DD right on the DC rack, and the thing explodes!
I just sat there mouth agape... I had no idea that debris from an exploding ship could damage and/or cause a DC rack to explode. The DD didn't sink, mind you. But it was far less of a nuisance without it's DC's.
I did manage to snap a couple pictures if anyone would like to see.
