Overclocking

I just bought an X800 pro but unfortunately it doesn't support fan control or temperature reading so how can I be sure I'm not overclocking it too much? I used Asus SmartDoctor to crank up the engine from the default 472 to a maximum 522mhz and the memory speed from 900 (450) to 1050 and after a few minutes gaming the comp froze. If I try uping the clock speed by 20-30 mhz a time and it doesn't freeze the comp then is it safe to assume my graphics card isn't being damaged?

Yes. Graphics cards are harder to burn up than CPUs. If the heat gets too high, the card will shut down.
Get ATI tool or ATiTray tool. Each is a free app taht will automatically overclock for you until you start to get artifacts, then back off.
