Was I supposed to see a little shell somewhere to stand on? I looked everywhere for it but although I saw intricate designs on the floor and the pedestal base had notches like a gear, nothing looked like a shell to me. I have finished by simply standing in front of the pedestal/lever but please tell me if I was supposed to see a shell in that corner.

Switch into first person and look down under the lever

this is what i see (first time I've posted a pic, forgive me if it's too dark)

EDIT: in game options (F4) has a gamma adjustment but this had almost no effect. However, once I adjusted my display's gamma (I think I went from 1.00 to 2.88 - overkill) voila! This whole time the area in question has been in deep shadow. Now I know what others have been talking about!!! Thanks for your feedback.

Did you pull that lever that can be seen in your picture?

yes I did, and the door closes, the light comes on. I can see a little more of the lever, but the area below looks just like the picture. Only part of the curves were visible and I just thought they were concentric circles. In fact, I thought that area was the base of a pedestal that the lever was attached to. I don't have the lighting problem in other programs or even in other areas of URU except the great tree was VERY dark - I could only make out some texture. So I guess I have to adjust my gamma just for URU which is too bad.

EDIT: *sigh* sorry about this! I thought since the picture above looked dark to me, it would look dark to you too. I just noticed after adjusting my gamma that many of you could see the detail in the pic just fine. Urgh!
