I got silent hunter completely by accident. I bought a second hand copy of a flight sim. But inside the packgage was a copy of SH 3 which I threw in the bin http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif. Curiosity got the better of me so I extracted the game and tried it. So 3 hours later I was still struggling with the acadamy. I found it incredably hard and exciting and got really hooked. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif
So Ive been looking at the forum for stragegy and tips, there is so much out there http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

So I want to ask you guys for some pointers?
First of all what are the best mods for me to use. I have a good powerful computer and have SH 3 with update.

At the moment, I'm playing at the normal difficulty level(auto targeting etc). What aspects of game realism shall I start to change from auto to manual?

all the best otto

Otto;

Welcome to the forum!! You will find the community here to be both friendly and helpful!

"The Acadamy" is the best place to start, because (as you have probably noted) the controls available to you are both numerous and complex.

As far as "Tips" are concerned, I would encourage you to ask specific questions WHEN EVER they occur to you! ....There are plenty of people here who will be delighted to help you: ....But if we all simply started offering ideas and pointers at random, you would spend the next few months reading, rather than playing the game! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Concerning Mods: First make sure that you have the stock game patched up to the current V1.4. This patch is available from numerous gamesites as a free download.

Once you have become familiar with the stock game, you can then move up to the SuperMod "Grey Wolves Version 3". This mod is the result of years of work by a VERY dedicate group of SH3 enthusiasts: ...It is also available as a FREE download! (DO NOT pay for any SH3 mods or updates!! Most packages offered for sale are simply rip-offs of the Freeware packages that are being offered.)

You are probably asking yourself How good could GW3 be????

Well, ....If you think of stock SH3 as a REALLY good hamburger, with all the trimmings; ....Then SH3 with GW3 would be the best 24 ounce Porterhouse Steak you ever had!! (Accompanied by a fine wine, and followed by dessert and brandy!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif)

Welcome, Otto!

I can only agree with KL's post above regarding GW3 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

You asked:

What aspects of game realism shall I start to change from auto to manual?

Once you have mastered the basics, I'd suggest you experiment with turning off things like unlimited fuel, unlimited air.

With these options set to 'real' you can begin to appreciate the challenges the Kaleun's faced on their patrols.

As you get the hang of those, ramp up the difficulty by turning off things like 'Auto Targeting' - THAT is a different conversation all together, but we'll get you through it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Read the Community Manual - link is under my sig, as is the GWX3 download when you are ready http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

thanks all, for your information and help http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I'm going to get modding and there are so many techniques to learn http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif. My first career will have to end prematurely so that I can install GW3 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif At least I've managed to torpedo a british war ship at 2000M http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

You lucky man i am still using a 5 year old CRT monitor, but am thinking of getting a 22 in wide screen. I also am still using windows XP. Now you have it all a 22 in wide screen, GW3 Gold and Das Boot, what more in life could a man ask for

I'm over the moon with my acer monitor. GOt it from dabs for just over 100!!!. Adds real realism to SH3 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Next I'm thinking of surround sound, using a red light to add to the ambiance, Maybe getting someone to throw a bucket of seawater over me. Or maybe I'm getting alittle too crazy over sh3http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/partyhat.gif
