I have no idea why it happened on oblivion on occasion too. But the game renereds things imporperaly when im playing it. Randomly guys will have graphical spikes coming out of them, almost like it drew trinagles of textures to some of the modles.
Anyone know how to fix this?

Yeah. you wannah know your problem.
You can fix this by not overclocking your video card. The reason you have spikes and weird textures coming from characters and objects is because your card is overheating.
Don't overclock it so much.

Laphin... I honestly don't think he is overclocking his graphics card, if he was, he would know what the problem was.
Hickz, i would recommend checking that all your fans are working eg the case fans, the ones on your power supply, cpu and on the graphics card itself. If everything seems fine, try to make sure your computer is in a well ventilated area.

Have you overclocked your video card? If not when is the last time you cleaned out the inside of your PC? Most recent drivers installed?

tbh thats not the graphics card, i had same problem cplhickz, its driver problems or bad graw engine, i since fixed it by getting nvidia drivers 84.56
uninstall yr game first install yr new drivers and install the game.

Yeah, just get a can of compressed air and blow the dust out of fan intakes/exhausts and your heatsinks.

If you want to look for drivers which I can confirm work with the 6800u, look for some old omega ones. You can get them from Guru3d.com.

So cleaned it out, and removed the cover to give it a bit more air, no problems through one play through.... seems to have fixed it. It was a ****ing dust bin in there when I cleaned it.

apperently my card is hotter then I thought, it started again but ended once I put a actual fan on my machine.

I have the same card, and the 81.98's work great with GRAW.
His problem is most likely heat. It usually is when it starts artifacting like that; especiaslly when it only does it on occassion, usually when the video card is taxed.
I'd clean the fan and heat sinks, make sure the case fans are operating properly.
Updating the drivers is a good idea, but probably won't solve his issue.

TBH both my 5700 when I had one and more recently my 6800 had this problem with overheating and it was just the beginning of the end for both of them. I did the whole cooling thing and it helped a little but it was just a death knoll, I had to replace both cards within weeks, sorry dude...hope urs isn't the same deal but that is exactly what I had.

Might be a good idea to get it RMA'd.

I've got a geforce 6800 ultra also, and I had that same stuff happen, weird spikes etc. It also happened in lockdown..
It doesnt happen to me anymore though. I updated my drivers to 84.56 Forceware (beta) and I also upgraded my ram from 1gb to 2gb of ddr2, and the stupid spikes havnt re-appeared yet.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
I dont have my card overclocked or anything.. maybe this helps :P

Glad ya got it fixed.
Dust and dirt, and hair are huge heat generators and amplifiers. Especially with intensive games.
It acts as an insulator, and holds the heat in. It's important to keep your PC clean.
