Tuddley has a soft spot in his heart for UBWA. He's taken under his wing so to speak. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif
Which is cool with me. I wouldn't have thought about trying it if he hadn't brought it up in a post a while back.

NYGM strives for realism and does a damn fine job.
UBWA strives for historical events and does a damn fine job.
GW strikes for blowing your socks off and does a damn fine job.
All of the "supermods" are great, I really do suggest trying each one seperately if you have the time. I've enjoyed all three myself, but bounce between NYGM for my Wolves At War campaign and Grey Wolves for my "normal" campaign.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I just can't cope with WAC's changes to the interface. I'm all for eye candy and historical accuracy but I find its interface more than a little irritating.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I´d say try NYGM 2.2 especially if you want to play the game in a more simulation way of WWII Uboote kaleun...meaning the difficulty. After few tries I think you´ll find out that attacking a convoy is no picnic anymore. Going close to British Islands and you´ll be chased by DD groups. Make a mistake and be spotted or pinged during convoy attack...prepare for torture...these DDs won´t let you go after few runs. And they´ll keep you pinned down...the greatest experience will be playing with 100% without external camera when hunted...but ofcourse almost as "fun" with external camera on...airplanes are now a real threat you don´t want to fight back unless neccesary etc.. I will not go and put up a whole list of things. I think you should try it. And GW too to which you like the best.
Cheers

As Cpt.Thorne said, you can find it at http://www.wolvesatwar.com/ http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
It's a group of players who "reenact" the entire WWII u-boot campaign using SH3 and NYGM 2.2 or GW 1.1a/GWX. When you join you're assigned to the training flotilla and need to do a single mission in a IIA/IID boat. After submitting your report about how it went you'll be assigned to a currently active flotilla and begin running campaign based patrols for that flotilla.
Every 3 weeks real time represents 3 months of War time. So right now we're on Patrol 11, March/April/May of 1942 and that'll last till November 20th. It's starting to get dangerous out there! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Basically it's a roleplaying community which tries to experience the u-boot war as realisticly as possible. Each player uses either a real captain's name, or a similar sounding one. For each patrol we do we submit a KTB similar to how real captains did. During the patrol you'll also post messages to the message boards in the form of radio messages your real captain would have, status reports, contact reports, permission to fire on a special target that kind of thing. The captains also often keep detailed daily logs of things that have happened.
Here's an example of my latest patrol report:
Daily Log:
22-Mar-42
23:52 BF28 Set out from Brest following escort.
23-Mar-42
02:50 BF52 Plotted assigned course to FALKE patrol grids. Night is calm and partial clouds.
26-Mar-42
06:28 BE63 While submerged sonar reports a sound contact, merchant at bearing 327. Rising to periscope depth to investigate.
06:35 BE63 After surfacing to vent air, we can see the ship with the UZO. A medium cargo dead ahead.
07:40 BE63 Medium Cargo sunk due to stern flodding after two torpedos, two hits. Radioed status report.
27-Mar-42
00:40 BE63 Sound Contact - Warship from the south.
00:49 BE63 Confirm as Task Force. Two Tribal Destroyers and one J Class. Avoiding.
01:36 BE63 Lost warpship contacts to stern.
17:07 BE38 Report of convoy to north, hdg west, spd 10kts. Radioed in that I'm approaching.
28-Mar-42
03:45 BE26 Convoy must have turned south, since I just passed them, lookouts report ships to the stern at 16km. Turning to get ahead of them.
05:06 BE26 Los! Fired 4 eels in a spread at a third row tanker. Lookout reports searchlights to stern! An escort somehow got behind us. Diving to 60m and evading, launching BoldType1.
05:10 BE26 Seems the decoy works well, lots of wabo
behind us.
05:13 BE26 Near misses from wabo, we must still be too shallow, dropping to 180m.
06:27 BE26 After more than an hour at 245m sonar reports escorts moving away. Surfaced and continued onward to patrol grid.

Currently you can use NYGM or GW1.1 for Wolves At War. GWX will be supported when released and even has a specific flotilla for using only GWX. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
You're asked to play with "100% realism", but that does NOT mean you have to use manual targeting.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif How does that work? Or do you mean all boxes checked except manual targeting?
And is the use of SH3Commander allowed?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Mostly yeah. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Weapons Officers, Manual Targeting and No Map Updates are all optional to turn on. Though NYGM has already removed the GPS map so it's still a bit more difficult.
SH3 Commander is encouraged acutually. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Mostly you just play one patrol every 3 weeks. There's rules for how the program would like you to run it, but if you want the external cam on no one's gonna kick you out for it. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif It's the honor system really.
Mostly I just enjoy doing the patrols for a purpose. You can have multiple captains as well, so like I'll have someone in the 1st Flotille for Atlantic/US patrols, one waiting for GWX for the Middlemeer patrols and one in the 11th Flotilla in Bergan up north.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
