What do you do when sub compartments start filling up with water and each 1 has a seperate timer?

Drag every available man to the repair crew, including an officer and tackle the flooding compartments 1 by 1. As soon as flooding stops move them to the next compartment, even if repairs are not yet complete, you can bring them back later. A couple of qualified repair men are very useful, when you get the chance to qualify them.

Watch your depth, if you start to sink like a stone, try reversing engines to give the crew more time. If you keep sinking and people start drowning (turning red), kiss your a$$ goodbye, SH3 doesn't allow a 'sit-on-the-bottom-and-make-emergency-repairs-to-refloat-the-boat' situation.

Blow ballast also to help if in dire straights.

Also something which many people dont realise is that men just in the compartment normally will make repairs while they are there. So compartments which have a dead time lower then the pump time (the two icons) you should fill with men, that way the crew aswell as the repair team fix it.

Also jumping the repair team around to keep all the timers low is the best way, dont keep them in one room till its fixed, just ensure the pump timer will run out before the compartment destroyed timer. I think if one compartment fills then the whole sub is dead, there is no way to block off a compartment for later ect.

You know what I find strange about the whole compartment flooding thing is that once one compartment is completely flooded...GAME OVER!

You can't tell me that just because ONE compartment is flooded, that that will cause to U-boat to sink everytime...

any thoughts on this...is there a mod?

Think it depends on what compartment is flooded...if the diesels, bridge or forward torpedoe rooms were to flood I think you would be dead. These are either critical or by sheer size would prevent resurface.

I agree with your assesment...but this happens when even the little stern room gets flooded.

And even if it was flooded, you should still be able to pump water out externally...just wondering?

U-Boats or any sub for that matter has very little reserv bounancy on the surface and none what so all submerged. So a compramise in any of the rooms means that the sub becomes heaver and hader to controle depth. Heance you "drown".

I concur. From what I've learned in my ballast thread, I'd say you're doomed if you cannot stop the flooding and have to resort to sealing off a compartment.

For a subs like these, German, American, British, apparently a leak/hole of 25mm size @ 70m depth has enough pressure and volume to overcome the pumping capability of the sub. If it can't get up, it is lost.

1 compartment is all it takes, watertight door or not.

And to think I volunteered for subs in the RAN?

Crazy!

Put your rubber waterwings on and exit the U-boat and swim to the surface remembering to exhale on the way up otherwise your lungs will burst!

Hate to make you seem uneducated, but the RMS Titanic could stay afloat with four compartments flooded. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Set the automatic detonators and get your men off the sub as fast as possible. You must not allow the allies to capture your sub!

And The Titanic could stay afloat with 2 compartments flooded. 4 and it could stay aflote longenough to have a ship come to the rescue. Say 5-7 hours.

I think a good demonstration of compartmentalization is that photo thread from a while back showing the torpedo testing. You see how that thing got ripped in half and the two pieces are still floating, with all that damage.
