Perfect on ATI9500Pro [Archive]

I used to be able to run in Perfect but had poor FPS so chose to use Excellent settings to keep things more playable. I have since installed PF as a addon, now when I try Perfect settings all the scenery (sky, land & sea) is totally black. I have tried many different tweaks in the conf.ini that other forum members have suggested but none have worked. Could someone with a bit more puter savy have a look at my dxdiag and see what they can suggest. Thanks.

Well I've done all those things and added the atiogl.dll file to my FB folder and none of it makes any difference! My water looks cr@p in Excellent and an all black background if I try Perfect!! Anyone got any more ideas?

Thanks mgdbottled, tried your setings but have made no diference at all. I think I have a more fundimental problem with the Perfect setting as I get no scenery, just a black background. Can nobody suss why this is?

the only exlanation I can think of is a bad driver install. also, not famailiar with 6490. My only suggestion would be a complete uninstall and clean install of the compatible video driver of your choice.

Where are you getting 6490 steve_v? My cards a 9500 Pro. I have a very clean driver installation. I've done a reinstall several times to try and cure the prob. I'm always very carefull about that. Oh! and where is this Triple Buffer thing you mention c-r? I cannot find it to check.

Depends on the driver. Use ATITool to see what reg tweaks are active [instancing, z-compression, triple buffer, etc]. It's an open-GL only option to force it on.

Try using ATITool, it's a nice utility. Get it here: http://www.radeon2.ru/atitray/

Triple buffer will appear under either "3d" or "opengl" additional options from ATITools rightclick menu. Uncheck it. It can cause similar sounding black-screen issues to what you're describing in PF.

The latest from ATI, the cat4.10, is version 6483.

Ah yes! the 6490 are the 4.11 betas that where on offer on this forum a couple of weeks ago. I have since deleted those and gone back to the 6483 (4.10). But it hasn't made any difference. Still got the black background on Perfect.
