very nice indeed. we even got a glimpse of some of the skills. :O)

pathfinding, summoning magic, logistics and diplomacy.

And notice that they're not all skills. Some are hero abilities. (diplo and pathfinding)

We also see that skills get advanced again....at least from basic to advanced....after that..?

Are you trying to view them streaming? I couldn't get that to work for any of the 3 new ones. Downloading them however. :O) (3rd one is indeed defective though)

Choose the download option. Works fine for vid's 1 and 2. 3rd is broken.

I'm a bit disappointed though by the picture of the hero when he levels up. I find he really lacks character.

Of course the third one is the one most of us really want to see and it doesn't work. Hopefully they fix it soon.

As for the others, I wasn't too impressed with the town movie. Granted, the town is absolutely beautiful, but I still contend it will be very hard to find dwellings or other purchased buildings amongst all that clutter.

The adventure screen movie was nice. I can just see it taking a lot to get used to all that scrolling and zooming as we've never had that before. That said, the graphics looked great and I am so happy they kept the upgrading of skills.

I've to say I'm impressed, those vids look really fantastic.

I just hope that the aventure map view will be locked by default. We don't need to rotate and zoom in/out all the time.
IMO Warcraft III had an elegant system : if you want to play with the camera, just keep the right mouse button held down and move the mouse. Unleashing the button makes you return directly to the default view. Not confusing, powerfull, and easy to use http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

One more little detail Nival and Ubi: The direction of hero's flag shouldn't change when the hero moves. Like in Heroes IV, it should only follow the direction of the wind (from east to west). btw, I'm wondering if HommV would follow the magic system of H4 or H3.
If it follows H4 , then the "Basic Summoning Magic" skill I've seen in the 2nd gameplay movie will be another Branch of Magic. So, maybe heroes with this skill can summon creatures of all alignments ? can be interesting http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Town movie
Looks good. I saw a blacksmith or something like it with smoke coming up from its chimneys. The towns in Heroes V are absolutely some floors (not steps) above its previous incarnations where you only had a static picture.

Anyway, at the end of the second movie when hero levels up we can see skills he can choose. Does it mean that summoning magic will actually be separate and unique magic skill?? Well, it sounds very, very, very, interesting!!

Well now i feel much better.. looks great and feels great.. however im a little dissapointed about the hero portrait...it looks to simple and not very cool at all... i dont know how i feel about the interface menus..but i guess thats ok if the game is fun....i will however play from the top view all the time :P

It's either what you say, or smth else - or at least this is what I thought when I saw the trailer:

One thing that confuses me a little bit, is what is written in the message: "The hero is eligible for improving skills AND gaining new abilities". If they would have used "OR", it would have been clear for me that you get to choose one of the 4 options. But that "AND" makes me think you can chose to advance both in skills and abilities, and I don't like that because:

1. The hero development will go slower (sort of speak) in the sence that it takes a while till you get to a new level, but then you really jump in stats (primary skills rise, secondary skills also, and you also gain a new ability). I prefer it step by step (as soon as possible). I mean, instead of having to choose 2 things after you gain (let's say) 2000 experience, better choose one when you have the first 1000, and the other when you have the second 1000.

2. Such a system would also mean going back to the H3 headache system (yeah, one of the few things bothering me in H3), of sometimes being forced to choose between two things you didn't need at all.

Let's hope it's not that and it's the other scenario: you get to choose only one of the four every time you advance in level.

It could be that you can only upgrade skills every odd level or so....I wouldn't mind that as long as you can upgrade your abilities every level, but it would seem odd for a Heroes game if after you have upgraded all your abilities, that you are still working on your skills every second level (or maybe its the reverse, and abilities are every second level or so).

As for the videos, they look fantastic. The town is amazing, and like everybody else has said, it looks like we have total control of the camera which is nice. I'd like to see the battle clip though...

Doesn't look at all like the one in the game movie, or the shots. Either it's a different town, or still the Human one, but in the early stages of development, or it's just some dwelling (pretty cool though).

Okay, quick analysis: We see some spell casting, looks like: Meteor Shower, Inferno/Fireball, and Bloodlust, in that order (not counting the Angel€s Ressurect). Little stack numbers are floating near the creatures. If the numbers are any indication, the Nightmares are higher up the ladder than the Succubus, as there don€t seem to be as many of them (though they might have gotten killed off earlier€"no real way of telling just based on the video).

One other very important thing we can see in the video: We'll have H3-like retaliation system! I think I like this. I know it's less real, but for the game it's more strategically useful.

LE: Oh, and I love the new Angel in action. I loved the part when he's slicing the Devil in two (kinda improved my mood after the trailer where the Devil kills so easily the Angel).

I'm really really worried about battle map being soooo small. Both heroes are just one in front of the other, every single unit can cross the whole battlefield in one turn. I hope this was just for the demo, otherwise we are going to get some kind of Disciples or Etherlords like combat without any tactics, (I mean terrain being completely unimportant).

In the battle movie, or the trailer? There were some in the battle movie, they just got killed off before they could do anything.

I liked the part where it cast Resurrect. I still think the trailer was meant to be symbolic.

First of all, thanks for the 3'rd movie, Mike!

Since everybody is expecting from me the regular "trolling" (whatever that means, I'm not sure...) I'll start by saying that I like the new aspect of the game. It seems they're bringing back the feel of H2 on the map, while the creature animation is as good as H3 used to be.
But I'll take the movies one by one:
Town: nicely rendered. The colors are however too dull compared to the map. And as many have already pointed out, not very functional. I'll eventulay get tired of rotating and zooming and when the castle will be fixed, it won't be that great anymore. And I don't have anything against houses, but really, did they have to put some of them on the highest terrace, right next to the angel dome?

Map: look beautiful, but again, in the detriment of function. We still don't know the extent of the zoom out, but the hero is certainly lost somewhere between those trees, and it will be impossible to find your way and all the map objects unless rotating. Which will be great for the first rounds of playing, but not much longer. Unless they adjust the view for a static one, they're in trouble, because the gameplay will suffer (and I see many of you putting the gameplay before anything else). In short, it no longer has the feeling of strategy, and my feeling that a good strategy on this map is quasi-impossible is starting to grow. [for those complaining about the lack of rearing horse, the hand actually points with only one finger when you reach a map object... but i agree that is not enough]

Battle: alsmost movie like. But very confusing. I had to watch it 3-4 times to finally get a clear picture of army disposition on the battlefield. To many zooms I think, and I really hope they'll have an option to deactivate them. I aslo join those who reacted against the size of the battlefield. Too small. Remeber, sometime a good strategy is to actually outrun your opponent while waiting for the "poison" spell to do it's job. So reducing the size of the field with the army size is one of the worst ideas yet. They say it's for the sake of speed, but I don't think that's a good modification. Anyway, battle speed has been OK in all homms, i think.

vladpopescu1979 Fabrice(sp?) already said on celestial heavens that you will be able to turn of the zoom in on fight animations and also turn of all animatiosn for speed so no worries. i will copy the post he did for you
''About the town screen, as well as other screens (mostly the battle one), there were next to no interface on display - we dont want to show it at this stage. For instance, popups on buildings or items will be there, but not in this demo. Ressources for instance will be summed up in the adventure screen. Other things have yet to be streamlined, like the minimap, or the chest/level up windows. But we want players to spend less time in windows and interfaces.

Regarding cameras, especially on the battle screen, flybys and close-ups will happen the first few times you encounter something new, to get a better look, and then the default view will prevail. There will be an option to force these views off if you prefer (similar to the option to turn all animations off, in order to speed gameplay).

If you ask me this really could be the best heroes game ever, the battle looked really good. The field was a little small but they have mentioned how it will be small if you only have a few stacks and there were only 3 of each i think there. However I think the battlefield should just be default =/ one of the best ways to start the game is get archer units and kill low level stacks before they get to attack so you have no loses, it would be a massive shame if that went. Anyway still looking good.

edit: just noticed the angels seem a bit stronger than devils. The devils seem to have a beneficial spell cast on them (possibly bloodlust). Theres 6 of them but they attack first taking the angels down from 8 to 5. The 5 angels then kill 4 devils. It is possible they are archangels and the devils only normal i suppose or the heroes of differing strengths, still nice to see niether is really that much stronger and definatly suggests the trailer was merely representative of the trailer.
Its also really nice to see the little details there, such as when a stack is killed the hero celebrates.

My thoughts: very nice http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif. The graphics again are the strong point here. Its true you could get a little lost with all the camera rotations and zooms and such, but keep in mind what Fabrice said in reply to Mullichs review; you can turn this option off after a while of playing if you dont like it. Fabrice said it just happens the first few times when you experience something new, so I really dont think we will have a big issue regarding camera. Im sure that once we see the cool zooms for the first few times, we will all turn them off or they will go away on there own. The whole battle scene itself was cool. Thumbs up to the Angel there for kicking that Devils ***! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif Shows him not to mess with these bad boys (err...girls http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif) for what he did in the movie http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif. Arg the angels are men >_< they always have been why would it change now. Anyway just noticed a few extra things in video 2, theres a whirlpool in the lake behind the alchemist lab, a nice touch in that the lab only starts working when captured, at the start of the vid there appears to be a fountain of fortune in the top left also, also just noticed the little birds that keep flying across the screen very nice touch ^_^. To think the game still has a massive amount of development time is very impressive.

But yea the way the devil moves is really cool, although weird the way he appears before hes even finished dissappearing, also it kinda needs some refining as his torso appears before the hole in the ground does O.o

Thank you for the video Mike since GameSpot still can't get their head out of their *** and fix their link.

The battle was a little hard to follow, but graphically it looked phenominal. The spells were pretty cool, especially the first one (meteor shower?).

I saw someone mention that they were concerned that the battlefield looked too small and that you could get across in one turn. There is no indication that this battle was from the very start so as far as we know, this video could have picked up midway through the battle.

If in fact you do start that close together, then yes there will be some major concerns amongst the community. Heroes has always been about fighting across a field, not starting off in front of your opponent and whacking away. Please keep that in mind Fabrice if that is the case.

I thought the scenery behind the angel was an awesome touch. Also, if you pause the movie at 23 seconds, the bit where the angel is casting resurrection, the map looks much bigger. Maybe the bit we're seeing is just a fraction of the battle and originally they were much further apart. Then again, that would suggest that you could move your hero around, which i thought you wouldnt be able to do ... Battlefield did look pretty small though.

Castle, again, looked awesome. Would have been nice if you could actually see some interaction between people within the castle. Just general things like having guys walking around, talking, making stuff, building things, whatever. Just looked very ... tranquil ... But yeah, its hard to tell what stage the castle is actually in ... buildings / creature dwelling wise. Good though. Very promising.

I just realized something. You know that unit that most of us had assumed was the Champion?
After looking at the battle video again, I think that's the actual hero. You don't see any numbers next to him and he casts a spell.

lol really? I thought it was hero from the begining since he looks exactly the same as the hero on the map screen.

Oh and to update on Emule there's now 9 sources (7 of them with complete copies) and 3 people are getting the file off me now and I haven't even got the whole thing yet lol!!!

I think it's the beggining of the combat, but anyway even if it's not, I'm sure that's the initial distance between armies because the position of the heroes suggests it, (and I don't think they have moved even if that's possible at all in H5).

I don't think so, those armies were big enough to require a larger battlefield, (there were 8 archangels and devils). Well, frankly, I think that battlefied is too small even for unimportant battles with small armies.

My only hope is that it's a battlefield specially made for the E3 demo, (to have a fast combat and show it fast to the people). The fact that it looks like a recorded battle, (there is no cursor nor clicks), supports this idea.

Actually I quite liked Heroes IV - it's just not as unforgivable as were Heroes II & III...

I second that. The new battle video helped me a lot to accept and even start to love the new Angel. I still have one worry left about it, and that's about the difference in strength between the Angel and the Devil. IMO the Angel should be first. We cannot actually tell from the video, 'cause there we had 8 Angels vs 6 Devils (if I read the numbers right).

Basically size is determined by amount of creatures, not their stacks.

Don't get me wrong, I personally don't care for this idea of changing battlefield sizes. I was only expressing how I understood it based on Fabrice's words.
That said, 1 stack on either side or 6 stacks on either side, it shouldn't matter. The battlefield should be huge no matter what the armies. We, as Heroes fans, don't care about quick battles. Hell, the fighting (for me at least) is the best part of the game. If it takes me 10 minutes or more to finish a single battle, then so be it.

Oh, one more thing I meant to comment on. You know when the Devil attacks the Angel? When the Devil hits, there is basically no movement on the Angel's part indicating they were struck. All the others you see step back or fall, but the Angel just stays in the same spot. That's kinda disappointing.

Read up on the replay by Fabrice on CH. He already said they weren't done all of the creature animations yet, hence why the Angle didn't really move.

Personally I can tolerate this feature. If it it executed well and therefor not taking away from strategy while speeding things up, I'm all for it.

What we all want for this game is resurecting the series and bringing lots of new fans to make a healthy community, right? There are now millions of skilled strategy gamers on the internet playing only RTS. Partly that is because they think TBS is too slow. If ubisoft can speed up the game and market it as such, then that should help brining in lot's of new fans.

The ressurrection-animation looks nice with the light from above and the cloud/smoke on the ground. But what I miss is an actual stand-up-animation for the Griffin. It just sais >plopp< and it stands again. I the other HoMM-parts the ressurected creature did a reverse dying-animation. Did anyone else notice in the third movied that the when the angels resurrected the griffins more came back then we originally there.
1 Openning scene there are 31 griffins
2 Meteor spell kills 14 leaving 17 griffins
3 Devils attack killing the remaining 17 griffins
4 Then the Angels resurrect 35 griffins
Does anybody else see this or am I just reading the numbers wrong?

It doesn`t matter really.. the thing is How in the hell could 8 Angels ressurect 35 griffins.. (or maybe it is possible.. haven`t played too much Heaven thou) .. or maybe griffins is the 2nd or 3rd level unit :P But good find.. also I thought 7 devils killed the remaining 17 griffins

You€re probably right (don€t know if it€s my screen resolution or what, but the numbers seem really blurry to me€"the Succubus stack looks like 70-something instead of 20(?) something), but if you€ll notice, the Nightmare stack started halfway across the screen. It€s more then likely we didn€t see the first part of the battle.

I noticed this as well. This is why I said earlier that I believe this video wasn't from the beginning of the battle. It's obvious there were more than 31 Griffins because you can't resurrect more than what you start with.

Right now I`m tottally sure we haven`t seen the first part of the battle.. notice when Devil is killing griffins we can see someone (Archer?) lying on the ground

it clearly starts not at the beginning, as someone said the nightmares are halfway across the field. A point about the video though, is i assume the sides are meant to be about even, this suggests nightmares are once again a high level unit and griffins a low level. Also unless the succubus have a strike and return attack they are probably ranged. I think theres 28archers and 28 succubus so maybe similar strengths too.

The archer is killed with the first spell of the inferno. I think that's the start of the combat just that probably the resurrect of archangels will be able bring back some more units than the dead if there are enough of them.

Hm when in the movie we enter the inferno town we can see instead of map a I, II, etc. My guess is that there will be 6 levels of units (or maybe guild mages ?:P) Town is kind of ok. Not too good not to bad but I like the idea for this town (I`m guessing it`s a Heaven town burning only adding some structures from Hell http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)
Town tree looks very good but I really can`t say nothing more (low quality gah:P)
AND FINALLY we see a fully combat mode Yes! It`s definitly not 7x7 :> but..
I can see the diffrences between the size of battle (the less units less terrain)
Onto the battle:
Inferno will have it`s hero fighting but my guess is he will be able to fight ONLY when the rest of the army are dead.
Also I can`t see too bright but did I see an Imp on the battle between Humans and Inferno ?
Succubus is a range unit (or at least spellcaster)
<offtopic: I wonder if they want to do this creature segregation just like in Disciples 2: end of offtopic>
and.. can`t really say too much but it was a good movie and I still have faith in Nival :]

nice to see redwood observatories are back ^_^, video is very cool, i dont suppose anyone could make out what the units are when its in the inferno castle? I can only make out peasant and imp? and that small dog demon. Loads of stuff to see, appears to be the upgraded monk also the dog demon (sorry it doesnt have a name i dont mean cerberus) is orange in some so upgraded or downgraded. The griffins also do a normal attack which may mean multiple attacks, may they have a special where they can attack across the whole field but it takes 2 turns. Angels appear yay ^_^. Although it kinda looks like the blue ones are archangels and the white ones just normal due to the glowing sword but i dunno.
Also see the size of the balor =O. I will try gather what the units in the castle are and look for more stuff too.

Just noticed the hero trail for inferno heroes is a flaming path, very cool.
First aid tents, ammo carts and ballistas all appear to be back.
Also at 22seconds can anyone make out what the hero is fighting? they look kinda like balors but i dont think they are. It would appear the bald thing in the screenies is a cerberus and the hellhound will again appear the same, just one head.
There are red knights that look identical to the crusader units, so its either a stupid upgrade which i doubt or they perhaps change colour with the player (which would rock).
Succubus seem to have some impressive range attack or spell (it hits 2 units :O)
And yay calvary/champions are back i think the blue/yellow ones are cavalary and the red/yellow ones champions.
This new video is AMAZING

OMG! What great videos! These are the first videos to tell me that Heroes V is not so different to past heroes games as we thought!

The devil city looked freaky!! If you look hard enough there€s a huge fiery meteor crashing down from the sky just behind the castle in the first shot.. lots of €˜life€ in the city which is exactly what I was hoping for! I can€t wait to see a high rez zoomed back viewing of the city. Was also wild to see how you build a new building in the city. Also great to see the unit portraits back and looking very Heroes 3 like, and the good old resources up in the top bar!!

And the battles.. wow!! Very Heroes 3 looking in those proper zoomed out shots. Now that€s how I hoped things would be normally. So happy to see the Aid Tent, Ammo cart, and the almightily ballista back again! Makes me wonder how wild castle siege battles will be once more since they€ve likely brought back the catapult too!

Boy did that bone dragon look darker and eviler. I wonder what its ghost upgrade looks like.. (you€d think this is the ghost version yet I€m pretty sure Fabrice said this was a bone dragon)

Oh man, watching that battle from beginning to end was sweet. And the seeing the path left behind by the inferno army as it walks around was cool. One thing i really liked about heroes 4 is that ever creature had its own special little abilities that made each of them seem more realistic, and we can see that Heroes V brings that back. (i.e. archers shooting multiple targets, the griffins dive-bomb attack, the devil teleport, the angle resurrection, etc.)
OMG i cant wait to play this game!!
