From what I remember, yeah, can't wait - always a good read!
Great substitute for a video, can tell you a lot more about the game's actual functionality and immersion.
Cheers!

Thanks. I hope you're not disappointed ...
The silly thing is that just after I finished it and sent it off I replayed the mission and had a MUCH harder time of it (with several systems out from damage including all hydraulics) and that would have made a much better war story. But I have to give an honest account of what happened in a particular mission so ...
The temptation is definitely rthere to make the mission a little more "interesting" on occasion but that does nobody any favours in reality. I just have to write it as I flew it.

Naaah, just stick to the description of the flying!
BTW, as a writer myself, I don't see why you "should" stick to describing one particular mission. If you fly a mission a few times and write together the best stuff from them all (within the bounds of logic), it is still a faithful representation of what can happen in Lomac. Don't let such an irrelevant criteria keep nice anecdotes from your stories...

The Eagles are here, I think to myself, as I switch back to Mavs and continue the ingress, looking for the targets. Another Fox 3 call is heard, and the AWACS informs us that there are no threats. A smoke trail appears out of valley so I dive down into it and arm my AGM-65G Maverick's laser. I slew the laser until it locks onto the SA-10 and I scream RIFLE! Just then I hear my wingman call out: WATCH OUT LEAD! FLANKER ON YOUR SIX!!!

XyZspineZyX

I break right and start popping flares. The Archer still guides, and I feel the aircraft is hit. It wasn't a serious hit, maybe some shrapnel hit the aircraft, but there was no cautions and the aircraft flew great. As I look at my 3 o'clock, I see an aircraft going down in flames. I cringe at the thought that this may be my wingman. But it's not! I soon spot him behind the burning aircraft; I never did hear the Fox 2 call. I guess the Flanker saw only me, and in the process got forward of my wingman's 3/9 line. But where is the second Flanker!? There are always two.

Meanwhile, back at the base, a pair of refuelling tankers were just beginning to lumber into the air.
Rumor had it a ragged group of men with Igla SAMs had been captured near the end of runway 25 the night before. But were they all caught? If not, things could get ugly back home pretty quickly...

Yes, they were all indeed captured, and the KC-10 gets into the air relieving the current tanker. Now, back to the A-10 engagement...

LEAD I'M LGMF!! Two archers arc towards my wingman as he rolls and twists spewing out a flurry of flares. A blinding flash followed by a smoke spewing meteor descends into the bottom of the valley. EJECT EJECT EJECT! A parachute slowly descends to the bottom of the valley. I uncage my sidewinder and get a lock up and shout FOX 2 just the Su-27 as he banks hard into me. The sidewinder loses track and slams into the canyon wall as I find my A-10 and the enemy's Su-27 locked in a horizontal rolling scissors through an ever-steepening valley in the Caucausus mountains... after the third pass he slides past my nose and I spray my GAU-8... BOOM!!! Just then AWACS warns of number 3 and 4 of that flight of hostiles inbound!

The other hostiles would present no problem though, the AGM-65 did find its way to the SA-10 radar, and the F-15s are on the way. The Flankers were head down, nose down, and radar down, looking for me. But they never got a chance to get to me, and were soon eliminated by the Eagles. It was time to cancel the mission. The wingman made it down safely, but in enemy territory. An HH-60G was scrambled for SAR. Soon, I got a hydraulic pressure caution, and I noticed that the hydraulic pressure decayed since the AA-11 hit. Manual reversion kicked in, and I headed back to base.

The SAR helicopter found nothing that night. My wingman had descended right near an enemy encampment and was spotted. They sent a truck over to pick him up. He was surrounded and he dropped his 9mm Beretta on the ground and raised his hands up high. The butt of an AK-74 rifle hit the back of his head and he awoke lying on his back on the rough concrete floor of a prison cell. Next to him was a scruffy looking Russian officer with a bushy mustache screaming at him... AMERIKANSKI! What is your name?! What is your home address? My wingman told him that it was against the Geneva Convention for him to be doing this only to have the business end of an AK-47 shoved in his face...
