What are we going to do?

The Ice is melting fast, people are born every second, money is the most important thing ever http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif, peaple waste and don't give.

It makes me angry to see someone just throw a peice of trash on teh ground, or burn tires on purpose, or waste stuff!

I don't think this world will be the same in the futur, ther will probably be trillions of people, thats why I'm moveing to Alaska when I'm older, and I wil buy a Yak-3 modern replica, and will work on computers.

I hate how people waste water, oxygen and oil, and coal.

I hate it when people steal and lie.

I hate it! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

Organisms continually multiply and exploit an environment until their population numbers can no longer be sustained.

The same will happen with humanity, we are no different.

maybe you should cry about it more stealth owl?

I gotta love the irony. You whine about people wasting oil, then talk about buying a yak-3

well, I would argue that we are different in that we can significantly modify our environment to support more of our species.

And? My point still holds value. Sure agriculture has meant that population has significantly expanded but who are we to say that agriculture isn't natural. Evolution gave us the ability to do that, just like it gives various species different characteristics for different types of hunting/ecological niches etc. We are just filling another ecological niche.

Also I highly doubt that humanity has the ability to sustain any more than 9 billion people on this planet. Maybe if we cut every forest down and intensely farm every corner of the globe whilst we all live in 1000m skyscrapers, packed together like battery chickens. Whilst 1 percent of the population live like we currently do and the rest of us just eat, sh1t and work.

So you actually believe all that global warming propaganda about the melting ice?? This is what statist, left-winged politicians want people to believe because they want to control people. It's all about power by fear mongering. Fear!! Fear!! Fear!! It's also about making a lot of money by people like Al gore, who has a lot invested in technologies that will supposedly save us from doom and destruction. A lot of people are already making tons of money from climate change fear mongering.

There are at least six glaciers that I know of in both the northern and southern hemispheres that are actually growing in the last two or three years. One of them is at the top of Canada's tallest mountain. another one is in Patagonia at the southern tip of South America. Just to name two of them off hand. Hubbard glacier in Alaska is also growing and advancing.

Here is some valuable info on advancing glaciers:

So, a few glaciers around the world are still growing. Still much less growth than it was years ago, I'll bet. The biggest problem however, is not if glaciers melt, but if enough of the polar ice melts. If this happens, there is evidence that the Gulf-Stream current will slow down due to the influx of fresh water, and Europe would then enter an ice-age. It's happened before. People argue, ah, the world temperatures have only risen .6 degrees. But you must realize that 98% of life on earth was wiped out when temperatures rose a mere 5 degrees.

But besides 'global warming' there are other things to consider. In the middle of the Pacific, a pile of floating trash was found that spanned at least 15 miles if I remember correctly. And not just some cups scattered here and there, it's a pile.

My professor, who has no interest in politics btw, is doing research on the Carbon cycle and the effects on oceans (I am an oceanography major) The increase in C02 leads to greater acidification of the waters, and can also make it impossible for diatoms and corals to gather enough calcium to build their shells. He has been sampling the changes for several years now. This issue is not related to climate, but it could lead to the gradual disappearance of coral reefs and the biodiversity that is associated with them.

Humans are able to change their environment to feed themselves, but the result is null: You are hungry, so you develop better ways to get yield from crops, the population expands, and now you are hungry again. The process continues until... who knows.

However, I think that you are being a little naive Owl. You would be surprised to learn how much you waste too. Before you become bitter at others, do a little introspection. You hate thieves and liars. You mean to say you've never lied? Especially ironic is your desire to have a Yak, which burns more gas and oil than several Hummers. Besides, Alaska will be being drilled by then, so there won't be much of it left to enjoy http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Substitute "there's going to be a nuclear war" for "the ice is melting fast" and that's what I had as kid growing up in the 80s.

Yes global warming is a problem, no it's not the end of the world. For all the hand-wringing of the environmentalists, technology will eliminate the problem in time, long before the most dire predictions come true.

Don't forget, environmentalists have a very long history of being wrong. They said we'd run out of oil by the 80s. They said we'd run out of aluminium by the 70s. They said if Kuwait's oil wells were set on fire we'd have a nuclear winter. The environmental movement have been wrong on just about every prediction they've ever made.

Look at what the scientists are actually predicting, not the scares put out by politicians, pressure groups and the media.

It's utterly pathetic that a tiny minority is attempting to politicize a scientific issue like climate change.

And a scientific issue that is irrefutable at this point at that.

That depends if it's environmentalists saying it or scientists. Remember DDT? I can think of just as many examples when scientists and environmentalists have been right.

There are a lot of factors involved in glacier advance/retreat, not just temperature. Records also show there can be significant lag times involved in their fluctuation.

The world will turn to this .gif I made:

..... The best advice I can give you is to READ HISTORY. If you don't know your history, you have no perspective. If you have no perspective, it is impossible to understand what is going on around you.

Second piece of advice: Don't believe ANYTHING until you have carefully checked it out yourself. People lie, and they lie for all sorts of reasons - ambition, power, greed, fear, love, ideology, fanaticism, stupidity, ad infinitum. And, if there's enough money or power in the pot, an awful lot of people will lie about the same things.

Third piece of advice: Memorize this following wisdom - "You don't know what you don't know". What does that mean? People and all their institutions keep secrets. You almost NEVER get the whole story the first time around, or the second time, or maybe even ever. Don't ever fall into the delusion that you know everything about anything or that anyone is ever being completely honest with you; otherwise, surprises will jump up and bite you on the a@@ at the most inopportune moments.

Other than that, focus on your own life and dreams and don't waste your energy worrying about things you can't control. Pursue what you love FIRST.
