Hi@all
yesterday I started to play the incredible demo of Uru and I was quite impressed. But after being disappointed by some other highly anticipated games I'm quite suspicious now and would like to ask a few questions, before I decide to buy the game or not.
1.) Is this game over after 10 hours or does it take longer? The time it took to complete some other games I played this year was quite a hoax (Unreal2 or EF2).
2.) Are the controls fully customizable? I will never get used to the configuration of the demo... I would like to play the game like I play Egoshooters, meaning free mouse look without pressing a button, right mouse button forward, middle mouse button (that is thumb button) backward, left mouse button action (what ever this is, pressing buttons, pulling levers), jump, duck, strafe with the keyboard...
3.) Is the game linear? Does my actions effect the story?
4.) Any known but still unsolved (even after the patch) issues with ATI grafic cards (got a Radeon 9600pro, the demo looked awesome, only at a few places the textures looked kind of washed out). The demo ran fine without any problems and at a descent speed even with everything maxed out.
5.) And finaly is the whole game as good as the demo promisses?
It would be nice if you could give me some good answers to my question, and have in mind that I will base my buying decision on them (plus I will play the demo again and play it through, did not have the time to complete it yesterday and you can't save).
Thanx,
Marko

You might want to check out the replies in this (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=5941034&m=5091) thread. I asked a similar question (it's on the Uru, spoiler free zone board)

Thanx for the tip.
Have you bought and played the game by now?
Are you happy with it?
What about the customizability of the controls?
So far I learnd that the game is linear, but this is ok, and it will take quite a while for me to complete, because I don't have the time to play it every day for an hour or more and I never played Myst or Riven, because I did not like the look of it... So I guess the puzzle solving will not be that easy for me http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Would you say the game is a preperation for the multiplayer part or is it a full single player game with added online capabilties?
More questions, I know, but I will research very carefully in the future before paying so much money for games that do not even come close to my expectations.
Thanx
Marko

I will reply by saing...
the controls are not cusomizable.. you can add some keys to the mix but you can't use a controler (this made me mad)
second i haven't plaied the demo, i bought the game while i was out ($45 i think is a rip off) and knew nothing about the game till now.
the game isn't all that great, unless you like exploring boring worlds with hardly any puzzles and yor only goal is to find 7 rags with wat looks like hand marks on them to unlock a door to gain access to a totempole and then restart your journy all over again in a new age.

Hello,I am reading between the lines and am figuring that the price of uru is quite an investment for you.I would suggest that if you are willing to wait 3 to 6 months,to go on ebay and buy a used copy. You will be able to get it for 1/3 the price.

No, not quite right. I'm willing to pay the price, if the game is worth it. I know that I will not know if the game is good untill I have played it, but there are a few points I can check before I spent my money.
A game can not be THAT good, that I will not be disappointed if it is over after a few hours only. It looks like it will be long enough for me being an unexperienced player in the whole Myst/Riven/Exile universe. The grafics are great, I have seen that.
Seems right now like I will give it a try http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I am very happy with the game, and yes, it is a full game all by itself. I may not ever play the on-line componant (assuming I am ever let in http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif) and I will still feel like it was money well spent. The demo was a good example and is really the first part of the game itself, though they made it a little easier to solve in the demo. It has eaten about 8 hours of my time so far, not counting the first part like in the demo, and I have solved only 2 of the four starting ages. I am a moderately talented puzzle solver, but no genius at it. I have looked at hint pages a few times, and an actual walk-through once to solve one particularly maddening puzzle. I don't know if there is more beyond those four ages, and I don't want to know until I get there, but suspect there is, a finale at least. If you play completely w/o hints I imagine this will last a good long time. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif And as to the comment about wandering boring worlds... I LOVE wandering thru the Ages of Uru. The beauty is amazing, the music wonderful. I play Everquest a lot and in comparison the solitude and quiet calm of this game has been like a trip to a Spa.
