Hi i have been following Tmnt smash up since it was first mentioned like many of you. i am a fan of Tmnt, have known most of the media and one of my favorite games and one the first i ever played was Tournement fighters for the genisis. There is one thing that bothers me about this game and that is the title. it frustrates me because even though it is its own game and seems to keep getting better the name makes everyone instantly think Super smash bros. copy and it is not. i know that they have the same developers working on the game but when you think about it the people who did not follow the website or are new tmnt fans or people just being introduced to them it seems to give that impression and puts some of them off. i was wondering if anyone else felt the same or noticed this. Should the name be changed from SMASH UP to something else? i know it is late in development but if they can change the cover art then it should be easy to change the name to something better if fans wanted to enough. Do you guys have any better names? i felt it should be something that Donatello would make up or something like ShellShock and if they made a sequel it would reflect the opposite like Shredders reign or something. granted TurtleTussle does not sound great but i still do not like the reactions to Smash Up. what do all of you think?

Smash Up is fine. Although you think that the comparison puts some people off, it will actually pull more attention and pull more people in. Not to mention a lot of the people putting it down right now will probably still end up getting the game.

Well it technically is a Smash Bros clone whether we want to admit it or not xD; The developers even admitted it themselves, it's a fighting game that's based around the Smash Bros formula but with health bars. But that is not a bad thing at all, Smash Bros. is one of the best fighting games ever created. Also TMNT Smash-Up will be very unique from Smash Bros even though it copies the formula. From what I've seen, it's as close to Smash Bros as Soul Calibur is to Tekken.
That's my opinion :3 But I do find it annoying that Ubisoft plasters the word "Smash" and "Brawl" all over the trailers xD;

i am srry if i upset you tenor335 and although you are right about people ending up getting the game anyway it just seems that on all of those gaming websites people are putting it down and gives the impression that only tmnt fans will get it at first before the gaming community will recognize its gameplay merit or differences like kooichi-kun pointed out. its true that they have a similar format and the game developers admitted to it being a reflection of smash bros. but it is seen as the 25th aniversary tmnt game and it should stand on its own instead of pushing the "just like smash bros." image. Smash bros. is my favorite fighting game and i am not saying anything bad about it its just that the "smash up" angle will partly work with the smash bros. community like you said but will also partly backfire. instead they should focus on gaining new fans or pushing for the tmnt crowd. i like tmnt and i think this game will do great especially after seeing how its going to work and the trailers. i was just bringing it up because if the name could be changed to be more in the tmnt universe what would it be? and because like kooichi-kun pointed out the words smash and brawl being almost underlined can be a little annoying at times although i am looking forward to those vs. fights when they get posted.

I wasn't upset. I actually don't think it will really matter what the title is when it comes down to it. It will be partially up to all of us turtles fans to sell this game. We are the ones that need to hype our friends, or buy it as a gift for someone's birthday as a surprise gift etc. If we don't go the extra mile than we probably won't have much of a chance for the sequel. If this game is a success it will be partially by word of mouth. So I don't think the name will really make a difference in the long run.

The name and cover of the game is fine for me. I'm mostly concerned about the gameplay and roster.

yeah, i should tell some more people about this game. i wonder if anyone has asked the devs about how many characters will come from each form of media. It will probably be mostly characters from the 2003 series, although everyone seems to want rocksteady and bebop.
