Has anyone tried any of the community games available on Xbox Marketplace? Most of the ones I've seen really aren't very good at all, but I have come across a couple of decent ones. Word Soup is basically a knock-off of Bespelled, but it's fun. Another good one is Carnyvale.

No I havent yet, but Word Soup sounds like fun. I loved Word whomp on Yahoo. I used to have little post-its all around my computer screen with rare three letter words that were in the dictionary.

The ones I have played are HORRENDOUS!!! They all are knock offs of other games, and I've given lots of them a try. They seem to be made in like 2 days or something, and no one used their imagination to even make the games look a smidgen unlike it's original.

I've only tried three.

There was a golf game with a course creator (something I've always wanted in a Golf game) that I was really hoping would be good. It wasn't.

Then there was that audio only game. It gets points in the creativity department but fails miserably in the gameplay department.

CarneyVale was fun & different though. I've considered getting that one.

Maybe I'll try that one. I'm sure it would be better than the one I "played" the other day that wouldn't even play past the start screen!

I make it a point to check the Community games whenever I get a chance, since I'm a big proponent of user-created content. There are new games up there just about every day. I'll check out the description of the game and some of the screenshots. If it looks like it might be different and promising, I'll download the free trial - usually only takes a few seconds. The games themselves really aren't too expensive, 200-400 points. Still, there are only two that I've actually purchased, the two that I mentioned above.

I didnt find the few I played to be great, but I also didnt expect them to be. Give it some time. There may eventually be something worth playing once people have had more time with it and possibly more people are working on things.

I ended up buying Weapon of Choice. It's a pretty decent game, not great but decent. It has some interesting weapon ideas for a shooter.

How about that 1 game [actually its not a game] where you pay 200 mspts for you to control the amt of rumble on you're controller. I saw this on GTR, talking about a massage on XBL.

There is seriously something you can buy on the marketplace to control how fast your controller vibrates???

I saw that, and downloaded the trial. Pretty cool, but I didn't feel like paying the 200 points to find out what the Extreme rumble was like.

LOL, I think staying in to have sex with your xbox controller is taking it way too far, and is quite pathetic, but at least it's cheap and STD free. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

It is meant to turn your controller into one of those hand held massagers.
I am sure there are more...interesting ways to use it though.

Hello ladies. Battery operated boyfriend. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif He's ready when you are and he doesn't talk back. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif
Plus if someone happens to walk in on you you can always make it look like you were playing a game. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

There's a new one called "Remote Masseuse" that supposedly lets you control someone else's controller over Xbox Live and vibrate it.

I did find a new Community game that I can recommend. It's called Miner Dig Deep (http://catalog.xna.com/en-US/GameDetails.aspx?catalogEntryId=898616ce-527d-408f-9bf6-69935fbc3782&type=2) . Basically you dig down into the ground looking for various goodies. You can sell the stuff you find to get money for upgrades, stuff like ladders, elevator shafts, lanterns, etc. My wife is hooked on this game now, and I've found myself spending a lot of time playing around on it also.

I thought you had to have an xna creator club membership to do community games? I'm sure that not everyone who's posted here is an xna developer though, so maybe I'm wrong.

I've written some game stuff in xna. It's pretty fricken sweet! Maybe one day I'll have something to show you guys

You do in order to create games and distribute them on Xbox Live. But anybody can download them and play them. Just like with all Arcade games, you can get the trial version, then it's usually 200-400 points if you want to buy the full version. When you're in the Download Content section, just scroll up or down until you get to "Community Games".

The only ones I've bought so far are the Word Soup one and the Miner Dig Deep.

I just played the trial of a new one called Bowling X. It's not really anything more then a simple bowling game but it's got pretty simple controls & it's only 200 points.

As someone who has found a lot of fun in good Bowling video games (going back to the Monkey Bowling mini game in the original Super Monkey Ball), I might just make it my first community game purchase.

Only downsides I can see so far are no online play (although I don't actually know if any Community Games support online play, I've never checked) & no achievements (which, if they were added, would likely make the Community Games take off big time).

None of the Community games support achievements that I'm aware of. I think there are a couple that you can play against other people online.

Yeah, I know none of them support achievements but I think if they did add achievement support, it would definitely spur a lot of sales. I'd personally go with a limit of 100 Gamerscore for Community Games (half of the Arcade limit).

That said, I can also understand why they wouldn't support Achievements since developers could make the achievements really easy to get more people to buy their game.
