View Full Version : Are things destructible in this game?

since realism is so widely mentioned, will terrain be destructible? Can all parts of buildings be destroyed by high explosives? Are body parts going to fly relative to the damage taken and where the damage is taken? Are the piles of firelogs going to be textured and uneven or just flat like in the trailer. I just don't want to see another tank shooting a building to no avail. Nor do I want to see a machine gun kill a person without being gory. Thanks

darn...i bet it will still be very realistic. however, this is yet another disappointment.

so basically we are still forced down a narrow path because buildings will still be stand and wooden carts, cars, houses, ground in the houses, and everything else won't be destructible even with grenades and such. Realism would be a tank round being able to hit a house at any point to create the corresponding damage. Sorry jsut ranting

Your not only ranting your wanting the impossible, this game has to be released on 3 consoles and fully even partialy destructable buildings would take too long.

And btw mortar shells and grenades etc create craters in the ground.

We will have to wait for the deo or final release to see what els they have done on this matter.

It is possible to create real-time geo-mod features such as the ones you just mentioned. This is seen in Red Faction 1&2, Mech Assault, partially in Natural Fawn Killers, FSW (corners of walls), F.E.A.R. and probably some other games.

It doesn't add much to a game, more of a gimmick and usually only applies to a tiny part of the game world. Certainly this feature does not redeem a bad game, example - Soldner. I would rather have good Havoc physics on the player models.

Just as poor as RF1 hehe http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

EDIT: Mayb impossible was the wrong choice in words. as it is possible, but doing it would probly look worse than not having it at all, and theres not much point in having it just for the sake of hving it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif know what i mean http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif ?

Well, in urban terrains it would make a difference. Generally you didn't wander out into the street, but rather blow holes from one room to the next. Given most of the fighting is done outdoors (with a couple of exceptions), it shouldn't be a huge loss here.

umm not every soldier cared a sachel charge to blow out walls dude and a pinaple would never tke out a wall enles it was made of plaster or something and back then it was all wood im in canadian army reserves ive thrown mark 67 frag grenades and they arent very powerful explosin wise its the shrapnel that couses the damage

That is 100% wrong. The environments are wide open and the game is completely nonlinear. This is countryside warefare we're talking about. The maps in the game are just like Normandy was in 1944, house for house, yard for yard, hedgerow to hedgerow. Somethings can be destroyed such as some trees, a few buildings, etc. Normandy is a rather open place. Tanks can run over hedgerows and other small obstacles. when bullets hit objects, various particle spread in all directions based on the object.

Have you got a supercomputer? Has everyone got a super computer? Until mostly everyone does, games will still have limits. Sorry, Gearbox can't install an uber-amazing graphics card and CPU for you, not to mention the crazy amount of RAM you'd need for the features some of you are demanding.

nova006

what he just said is true there are limits

Yeah, but Mech Assault: Lone Wolf came pretty close to the 'complete destructability' feature. You could blow a hole in a building's surface wherever you wanted. This could positively add to the gameplay. A tank could blow a hole in a wall, allowing his fellow men to go through etc.

Not 100% true...

There was a post about this and part of that post was quotes from the Dev's, and when asked about free roaming, he said that there was some blocking off , they had tried to do it naturally as possible. But hedges and so on will stop you from attacking from certain sections or getting to the enemy..

You will have freedon of movement "within" parts of a mission but fences walls and hedges I guess will stop you as it were "getting the jump" on the enemy...

Complicating the game even more. Although it would be nice, i dont think we can expect a game like that for a while...or atleast a decent quality 'environment destructable' game...

Can we shoot through wood or other weak materials like that, like in CS?

TennesseeTitans

No, originally they implemented bullet penetration. However, it didn't fit into their gameplay as some people used it unrealistically.
