Before ACB I was never a multiplayer, but alot of my FPS friends are speaking warmly about how much better gaming experience they have with good headphones, to the point where they can hear the direction of the enemy. Checked some out, but is surround even supported in this game? Does anyone have any recommendations for a good buy? Recommend first, and I'll consider my price range from there.

Damn it, i'm glad you post this. I have been looking for a good headset ever since i started talking with my friends. But idk which one would be better, so... i hope you get a better answer than mine http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

But here you go.

I'm glad you posted the link to that Dave. I have turtle beach px21's, and they are amazing! I would recommend them to anyone. You hear stuff you have never heard before, and the ability to adjust game and chat volume simultaneously is awesome. If you decide to get them tho, I recommend amazon.com. I got mine from there for about $20 less than retail. With free shipping.

Yeah, those are on my list, along with Tritton AX720 or AX pro, Logitech G930, and the rest of the Turtle Beach series (sorry, on my iPhone so too much work posting links on all). All are highly recommended in reviews, just some a helluva more expensive than the rest.

Also, the Logitech I think was supreme on everything except explosions etc, but guess I can live without the hidden gun http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif just need confirmation that the game supports surround, since it's all I play and I can easily get some good ones for half the price if it's in stereo anyway.

If whispers are directional it will be a new world!

Edit: DaddyChinn, can you confirm surround? And what about the whispers? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I would recommend Tritton (http://www.trittontechnologies.com/products/gaming_audio_technology/#Gaming)headsets. I have the AX180s, simple stereo, not surround. But they're pretty amazing. If you want to get full surround sound, they have a few options.

Trittons are all wired I believe. But IMO, a wired headset is way better. Won't waste money/time/communication loss during a game when the batteries drain. And they will drain fast. Also, wired sound quality is far superior. I don't even notice the wire when I play, so it really isn't a problem.

Also, they are compatible with all your gaming systems and fairly simple to switch between.

I'm not sure if whispers are directional or not, but I can say I can tell if a player is running behind me, over top of me, etc. They have completely changed my gameplay and my scores prove it.

But if I would choose between the px21's or the tritton series. I personally just liked the look of the turtle beaches, but have also heard good things about the tritton series. I've also had friends with both andthey say they can't tell a difference. So whatever fits you best. Also, search YouTube. I can't remember the link, butthere is a guy who tests all the headsets and gives reviews. You'll know it when u find it.

I have ps3 exclusive 4gamers ones. They are wireless so no need to racharge. Also you can hear people really well and controll the game sound and chat sound too, dunno if theyre best but i like them.

Sounds awesome (pun intended)! They put alot of effort into the sounds in this game, and recognizing running on roof-sound has saved my behind many a times. Would be surprised if it's not surround supported.

And for ACR I'll get multiple monitors and 3D, and get all my food intravenous.

^^Yeah ended up buying those. Was standing outside the shop before they opened, and have literally just taken them out, and waiting (15 mins and counting) for a match. I“ll let you know.

They“re not surround, but had to caught up 120$ extra for 5.1. Open purchase in 30 days, so might just use/abuse my way through all of them, hehe.

Dang wish I had seen this sooner, but for those that have not decided on what to buy I do HIGHLY recommend the Astro A40 they are awesome!

http://www.astrogaming.com/aud...e-yakCFRAq7AodGkVHNg (http://www.astrogaming.com/audio-systems/a40-audio-systems/a40-audio-system-astro-edition?KEYWORD=astro%20headset%20PS3&network=g&matchtype=e&mobile=&target=&content=&search=1&creative=7302990442&jt=1&jp=&jadid=7302990442&js=1&jk=astro%20headset%20PS3&jsid=9156&jkId=gc:a8a8ae4cc1a932aa9011ac6f423014a24:t1&&gclid=CPm1rqe-yakCFRAq7AodGkVHNg)

Excellent tech support if you need it, fantastic product quality, plus they even come with different addapters to plug into ipod, computers, ect... not to mention they even have their own hard stowage case that you get with it.

Really any headset over none is a vast improvement but the Astro's are in a league of there ownhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If you can stretch your budget a bit, Astro A40s are a must.

If your budget is lower, you can't go wrong with a good pair of Turtle Beaches really.

I have used a few headsets http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I used to play quite a lot of First Person Shooters, late at night, so a headset is invaluable http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I found the Turtlebeach series to be very good - only downside to me was the build quaility - however if you look after them you should be fine http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I now use the Steel Series XB5 - only stereo but offer great sound, and built like a tank - you can break the headphones down into 3 parts for travel /storage - good value too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If you want a full 5.1 surround though, I recommend either the Trittons or Astro's - due to the ability to use them on any console, and home blu ray players etc - so you get more versatility, should you have more than one console [Turtlebeaches you have to buy for a dedicated console] - and both are VERY highly rated http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I do NOT recommend Tritton AX 180s or AX Pros. To date we have gone through 6 pairs. Granted Tritton has replaced each pair that has quit, but we had to mail them to California at our expense. I think we have spent at least $100 on it. They are bulky and have way too many connections and cords. What usually fails is the inline controller box. It just quits working. Also the cable which connects the xbox controller to the their box tends to wear out quickly and there are numerous crackling and cutting out issues. The AX Pro head set is big bulky and heavy and the retail price of almost $200 is way too much...I have used a pair of Turtle Beach's for 2 years and have had none of the same issues.

Tritton are owned by MadCatz right?

That's all you need to know then. Worst. Build. Quality. EVER!

i have never heard of the astro series. I might need to look into this whenever my wife gets a playstation. She can have the turtle beaches of course since she will be the one with the new ps3. Also, a sidenote, the reason she wants a ps3 is cause she saw me fun-locking the other night and thinks its kind of cheap. funny, i know. But she wants one now just so she can kill me..I love this women http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Keep your receipt for the PX21s and buy an extended warranty if you can (Best Buy offers something like this). I did not buy the extended coverage, so it was a sad day when my PX21s stopped working after 3 months. Only one ear cup would play back sound, and the microphone was dead. Neither Turtle Beach nor Best Buy would help me out with a replacement / refund, even though there was no wear and tear on the thing (I treated it like a god).

I know plenty of people who've had great experiences with Turtle Beach - I'm just saying, be cautious, because there are a lot of people who haven't.

If you want surround sound you actually need to buy an amp as well as a headset.

IMO turtlebeach are pretty sub par headsets when comparing everything.

I would recommend you look beyond the turtlebeach and investigate an example being the Astro Mixamp + any comfortable gaming head set because not all headsets are made equal.

Depends what you want them for and what you want out of a pair of headphones. Don't be a noob and listen to AC:B players go to a MLG site if you are serious about spending some $ and see what your needs are.

Unless you are loaded and just want the new xbox gadget then sure just join the conforming line and buy a piece of **** we call turtlebeach headsets :P Okay they are not that bad I may be exaggerating a little.

Hopefully she realises quickly that it's an easily-broken tactic that isn't really that cheap after all... Then keeps killing you every time you try it on her :P

I was just looking this stuff up today on amazon and ended up passing out for awhile. Yeah I was thinking of getting Trittons but I decided to hold off for a month or two. Thanks for all of the advice.

Does it help with the multiplayer though? I'm sure that the single player would be great with them but...

Hopefully we'll get some specs on ac:r... maybe they'll put directional pursuer noises and surround sound headsets will be a must...

You will need one of these (or equivalent) to enable the true beauty of surround sound.

Update: the long version.

I returned the Turtlebeach PX21. Nice enough sound, but they didn't give me anything the volume up on the TV would. I guess they're ok if your wife is asleep, but they didn't add to the experience. they also felt cheap, plastic-y and Im sure I'd break them in a week. Not something I feel was worth the 160$ I paid.

So I raised, and paid another 100$ for the Tritton 720. Felt waaay better, both in comfort, sound and quality. I know, it SHOULD at that price, but if you are gonna caught up semi-serious money for equipment, it's better to raise the bar and get something that at the very least feels like the price.

Now. Still no surround. I'm guessing the game (at least MP) isn't compatible, although I haven't had time to try SP yet, not that I care. I want to know where someone threw smoke, or I can just use my stereo. So considering Steelseries Siberian V2, since it has VIRTUAL surround which I THINK is better when the game isn't in multiple channels. Anyone know anything about this, or have experience with Steelseries/virtual surround?

The only headset I haven't heard anyone bash is the Astro, but can't find it in my country and ordering from abroad seems sketchy in terms of guarantee/support. Will search some more, though.

Hold on a sec, you paid $160 for the px21's?! I bought mine on amazon for $50 brand new. They retail at $80. Maybe it was a typo, but it's a good thing you returned em if u paid $160. I do love my px21's, but I would never pay that much for them. I might also invest in some astro 5.1 Dolby surround sound headset, but not yet. For now, I'm satisfied and might look into it later.

^^no typo, and this doesn't surprise me. That's why we Norwegians go amok whenever we travel to the states, or anywhere, really. I might save a few bucks by ordering from you, but with shipping, taxes, more taxes and customs, it's usually very little. Add to that a 2-3 weeks wait and big trouble if you wanna return them, it's just not worth it.

daddychinn

Wow that sucks. Well I hope you enjoy your new headphones, mine completely changed my gaming experience. I'm also going to invest in the earforce dss 5.1/7.1 Dolby surround sound processor. All this talk about directional whispers and smoke bombs are making me salivate. It's like $60 also tho so I might have to wait a lil while. I do have a birthday comin up in a couple weeks tho if one of you awesome forumers is feeling generous. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I have not noticed any MP surround sound on my Astro's A40 but maybe it is just me. I do hear the surround in the sp part of the game.

Its just that the sound is more clear and directed into my ears (I do have tinitus though which is why I went with a quality headset)

Booo! I can tolerate non-directional whispers (that might just make it too easy, and unfair for those without as awesome headphones as mine), but UBI needs to get a grip in time for ACR. After the orgasm my COD-friends get from the sound of bullets flying past them or hearing a dude reload behind them, this is the kind of sophistication we need in a REAL game for REAL killing. A thread petition/open letter to UBI? After all, they're doing multiple screen- and 3D-support, so why the hell not proper THX style assassinations?

At least I'm glad I didn't order Astros for 200£ and waited two weeks for delivery to get the disappointment.
