As soon as I heard the name I was thinking of The Stand by Stephen King.
Anyone know anything about it? I've heard that a few people have died or nearly died from it. I've also heard it called a staph or something like that.
I hope this this blows over nice and easy. For the doctors and media to call an illness "super-anything" is grounds for worry.

You mean that fact was true? Are you serious?!
More than AIDs?!
Why haven't I heard a warning about this before? Has it gotten a lot of attention?

I just saw some websites...
It does look pretty bad. But if it was here in 2003, why haven't I heard about it until now? Was I just ignorant of everything that was happening?

Oh come on, Superbug's are just the term thats used for multi-resistant viruses, such as, MRSA, SARS, Bird Flu, Mad Cow Disease or the deadly Ebola. All of which I'm sure you've heard of. The biggest superbug outbreaks are the Ebola in the Congo years and years ago. The biggest worldwide has been SARS. Which took the lives of mostly Canadians and quarantined some parts of the world from going there. I've not heard anything about an outbreak, if it's a serious one those places would be quarantined, to the highest level.

Ok, that's somewhat of a relief. I have heard of those diseases. For a second there I thought wool was pulled over my eyes.

Actually Vicky you are wrong about SARS, it was China where it originated had the most dead. They hid it from the world for 9 1/2 months, before a foreigner contracted it which brought the virus over to Europe and North America.

I have heard that the superbug can't travel through the air at all. So it's definately not as bad as the fictional "Captain Trips". Minimizing contact with staff and students seems like the best thing one can do, other than maintaining cleanliness.
There are no cases in my school as of yet, and for that I am glad.
Grim, are the infected students in your school going to be okay?

Well the people in my school who have came down with it were on the football team,so i beleive it was transfered through a game with another school. And the people that i know who have it,yes they will be fine, our school supplied some type of antibody shot.It just seems like more and more i hear of schools being shut down because of it on the local news, our school said they sprayed our school with some type of disenfectant over the weekend but i dont beleive it because the monday we went back everything looked the same, literally nothing moved an inch in any classroom.

Wash your hands indeed.
And remember people, the chances of getting these diseases are actually small (smaller if you take care of yourself and all that).
Thats to say, its like 1:1,000,000. And while that does mean you COULD contract one, dont go changing your life drastically to avoid getting one.

Yeah, it's true where SARS originated and killed the most in China, I was wrong on that. I think the mass media where to blame though, here they where going on like Canadians where dropping like flies, if you look back at all the news paper articles that I still have.
MRSA has been a huge thing here but mainly happens in hospitals, you call it staph we call it the former. Hospitals have these biological hand washes before you can go in and see patients, they believe it can reduce infection from MRSA, but it's hit and miss.
Some superbugs travel by air SARS does and certain strains of Tuberculosis are also multi-resistant superbugs. I don't think people should worry about them though, if you take into account the amount of things you could come in to contact on a daily basis, you would stay inside in fear.

Great idea but sadly it doesnt work. Anything that touches this infection needs to be soaked in bleach for 3 minutes in order to overcome it.
There are a couple school near mine being shut down because of it. It IS a sudden outbreak and theyre attempting to contain it.

Don't be ridiculous, my thread has a spamming quota of nine.
That means you need eight more spam posts before anyone does anything. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Like VT stated. wash your hands and take care by keeping clean.
Grim,
the reason some highschool football players get it is simply not being required to take a shower. Most highschool programs make their players shower just for that, but some don't have the facilites for that, it is sad to say, but that is the best enviroment for staph and other infections to spread.
It should also be stated that the CDC is always looking for ways to treat these viruses, They just simply become ammune to antibotics over time, but medical researchers usually find differnt ways to combat the simplest of dieases. If you really look at all the worst plaques out there it is the common cold and flu like symptoms that is the worst and causes more and more people to die each year. Fear and misunderstanding also causes panic in our society as well.

I was reading that article tonight for homework. The chances of getting it are actually 32:100,000 or 1:3,125 (both are equal)Still... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif That's pretty scary.

Wash your hands - 2 seconds under water is not going to cut it. Hot water soap and really wash is the best thing. One of my girls works in a lab and she know there are some **bugs** out there than meds will not do a thing for. So do be careful around others that have cuts on their hands and or arms. Wash often, this bug is spread buy touch.
