at the part where the guy contacts you on the radio saying "good news, I can hear you more clearly" I get a loud squeel then a bunch of static, then the sound dies. Can anyone tell me why this happens?

If your using a Sound Blaster card, try reducing the Hardware Acceleration, this solved rhe same problem for my SB Audigy LS.
(Control Panel > Sound and Audio Devices > Volume tab > Speaker Settings Advanced tab > Performance tab > Hardware Acceleration > move the slider back one click to Standard Acceleration).
