that resolution is not supported- you have to edit your config file-

see link in my sig on how to edit this

the section you need is

[window]
width=1280 <-------------------1920
height=1024 <-------------------1080
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=1
FullScreen=1
DrawIfNotFocused=0
EnableResize=0
EnableClose=1
SaveAspect=0<-------------if not 4:3 aspect
Use3Renders=0

when you start up the game it will look rather hazy and low quality. If you go into video settings/modes in the game options it will say 800x640 or some other low resolution level, DO NOT CHANGE THESE APPARENTLY LOW QUALITY SETTINGS, when you start the game it WILL be in glorious high res1280x1024. If you then set the conf file to Read Only in it's properties, you can stop it changing back every time you go into Set Up.

Thanks a few questions if I set in config file to 1920x1080 why will game show in 1280x1024.
1280x1024 is all the game can render?
also when I set the config to 1920x1080 it says signal out of range so I set the config to 1280x1024 its nice and sharp but the sides are cut off </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Because Dieg didn't edit his post to say "1920x1080".

That's because 1280x1024 is 4:3 and doesn't match the aspect ratio of your monitor. Actually it's not cut off, just black bars on the sides. You should be able to get 1920x1080, if that's what the monitor's native resolution is. Try it again. If you are running your desktop at same 1920x1080, then try setting:

ChangeScreenRes=0

You also say "desktop is just perfect 1920x1024" ...which is it, 1080 or 1024? If the native is actually 1920x1024, then use those numbers.

Thanks for the help. I've managed to change the screen to 1440x900, but i'm having the same problem with the bars. I've tried the same suggestion with, (ChangeScreenRes=0)since my native resolution is the same, but no luck.

Okay, for you LudenWulf, if you're running the Windows desktop at 1440x900, then these settings should work:

[window]
width=1440
height=900
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=0
FullScreen=1
DrawIfNotFocused=0
EnableResize=0
EnableClose=1
SaveAspect=0
Use3Renders=0

I tried the settings you gave me dbillo, but I still have the bars. Odd..

Say Raven. Think you could post a picture of the game on your t.v? It must look incredible http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Then try:

ChangeScreenRes=1

Are you actually going into a cockpit and flying, or just looking at the menu? The load screen and menus will always have the black bars.

Thanks for the help. Turns out it was working, I just assumed the game would look just like the menu with the bars. Il-2 in widescreen. Very sweet http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hi all,

Great thread. I have a question regarding settings.

Ok .. I've read the instructions on how to edit the conf.ini file and I can get it to work ok.

My desktop resolution is great at 1680 x 1050.

However, when I change the ini file to below:

[window]
width=1680
height=1050
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=1
FullScreen=1
DrawIfNotFocused=0
EnableResize=0
EnableClose=1
SaveAspect=0
Use3Renders=0

I get the widescreen ok, but the detail is **** still. I used to run the game at 1280 x 960 with very impressive results.

I would have thought that with a higher resolution, the detail would have been even better?

Now my old 4:3 monitor was 17 inch, the new on is a 1.6 aspect 22 inch.

Maybe just need more pixels now to cover more screen area? Strange.

Any ideas guys?

Thanks,
Darrell

You dont tell neither what 'detail is ****' means exactly, nor anything about your hardware, but if 'detail is ****' means that you see jagged edges on the pixels, one possible reason is that you need to adjust the antialiasing settings. If you have a NVIDIA graphics card you must change the settings in the profile for IL-2, and NOT in the 'Global profile'. In the profile you can also change the overall image quality + much more. I have no experience with ATI cards.

I solved all my problems by using IL2 Stab 6.3, on the graphics tab you can go to the bottom of the menu and hit the "Click to add" option and enter you resolution, and if it 4.3 or 16 x 9 widescreen, I used it on my old Samsung to get 1280x1024, and now I use it to get 1920x1200 widescreen , it works perfectly everytime. Just remember to use the lauch game option on IL2Stab right after you change your resolution. thereafter you just start the game with your exe icon. The load screens will have bars on the side, but once the game launches it's full screen. Good luck.
