How do you train your crew on specific tasks?

Is there a way to train your crew on sonar, weapons, radar, etc... during the career mode?
Or you just have to get their experience high?

When you are back at port you can train them. Click on the file cabinet and you will get to your crew. On the bottom left there is a place to click to give awards, promotions, and training if you are eligible to give any.

At the conclusion of a patrol, after you see the final stats, hit the arrow, and it takes you to your desk. You'll have several interactive options there, like TRANSFER (the phone), UBOAT ACES (the sub model), etc. One of them will be PERSONAL FILES (some papers on the desk). Select that. It will bring up the crew interface, but in the lower left hand corner, you'll see, above the selectors for available officers, warrant officers, and seamen, one called AWARDS. Select that. Now, you'll have three choices: Promotions, Medals, and Qualifications. The number of promotions and the number/type of medals you can distribute will depend upon how your patrol went and who is eligable. For qualifications, you can only hand out one. All of these work the same way. Select which of the three you're going to be handing out. If you have multiple choices of this, select which specific one you're going to hand out. All the crew who are eligible for it will be highlighted in blue. Select one of those crewmen, and his profile will appear at the bottom. Now pick up the icon of whatever you're passing out, drag it over his profile, and release. A confirmation box will appear, you can select yes or no. Done.

For qualifications, seamen cannot get them. Warrant officers can have one single qualification. Officers can have 3 for certain, I don't know if they can get more than that.

After my first patrol I handed out one promotion, some qualifications and a bunch of medals, including one Iron Cross. However, after handing out all the goodies I was left with a couple of bronze 'war badges' or somesuch thing, which I was supposed to dispence to some of my crew. I couldn't, not to anyone. Any idea why?

you have to click under the badge not on the badge is what i noticed

For some reason, the U-boat War Badge seems very hard to pick up. I have a lot of problems picking it up if I don't put the mouse pointer in the exact right spot.
