far cry 2 crashes to desktop

When I open Far Cry2, it displays a loading screen for a few seconds and then crashes to the desktop.
My system specs are:
Processor: AMD Phenom II v4 965
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5850
RAM: 8g DDR3
HDD: 1TB WD Caviar Black
My drivers version is ATI Catalyst 10.9 (most up to date version)
I’m running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit edition

Do you run this game on DX10?

if yes change DX10 on DX9 in game, I sometimes have same problem.

Hello, I have the same problem with FC2 crashing immediately when I load it up. It crashes completely to my desktop. I've seen the advice about chaning to DX9 mode in the game, but I can't even get in the game to change it. It loads up the splash screen then goes to minimized mode and then shuts the game completely off to the Windows 7 desktop. I am currently running DX10.

Can you list your PC specs, or post a Dxdiag ? Do you get any Error message when FC2 crashes ?

It looks to me that your Game is starting in an unsupported Screen Resolution. Have a look here, and try the solution which I've posted.
