I am trying to install Riven 10th anniversary DVD-ROM v1.2. I'm using a 900 MHz PowerPC G3 iBook (systems 10.2.8 and 9.2.2). I'm running QuickTime version 6 or higher on both OSs, as required in the instructions.

I have followed the installation instructions contained in the 'Read Instructions First' file, and have definitely installed all the files listed there*. However, when I try to open the game after installing, I always get an error message reading: "Some files Riven DVD needs are unavailable. Please reinstall Riven DVD (your saved games will not be lost). We will now quit."

I've tried restarting in System 9, and reinstalling in that system (rather than just trying to work in the Classic environment), but it didn't make any difference. Neither did installing with my antivirus software switched off, which I had thought might help. I'm all out of ideas - please help!

Sorry for this post being so long, but I didn't want to leave out any info that might be relevant.

*The files the instructions say to install are: A_Data.MHK, the "Assets1" folder,
Extras.MHK , Manual.pdf, Menus, Mohawk PPC, Readme Mac, Riven, Riven.cfg, and Riven.ini.

Ettie 1984,

It happens that I have Riven installed on my PM8500. The difference between my installation (from the original CD set) and yours, except for the fact that I have ALL the "x-Data.MHK" files on my hard disk, are as follows:

1) Not only do I have "a_Data.MHK," I also have "a-Sounds.MHK."

2) I have a "riven.usr" file in addition to the files you listed.

Thanks for your reply. I have since tried installing again, and it worked perfectly - I have no idea why this happened, when about 10 previous attempts failed. Oh well! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I got the same thing until I re-read the instructions very carefully. I was moving the Assets1 folder into the Data folder, when I was supposed to be moving the files inside the Assets1 folder to the data folder. Once I took those assets out of the Assets1 folder and put them into the Data folder itself, the problem went away.
