I think I may buy CoD, even with the current issues. Anyone else do the same?

Since I've been waiting for this game since 2005 or 2006, I didn't care in what state it was. I JUST WANTED IT!!! So I ordered a collector's edition from Amazon.de. I even bought a new computer for Il-2 COD in 2008 It was called "Storm of War, Battle of Brittain" back then.

I haven't bought the game yet, though I'm going to shortly - I'm just waiting for my CloD-eating-monster PC to arrive (custom built by Scan, who sadly seem to operate in Oleg time http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif).

Bonus is that my other Sims/Games look better aswell, Perhaps a few others on here should do the same?

Thought after all the wait and Hooha. I'd better buy it just to support "THe Team".So I downloaded it from Steam. It took ages to download and update. I was totally and utterly underwhelmed. Couldn't set up my joystick. Planes appear uncamoflaged and gradually build up. FPS looked OK but scenery was rubbish even on High settings.
It's now just sitting moldering.
Managed to get RoF for under a tenner a couple of days later. It looks and plays like what I thought CoDs initial release should have looked. No problems with it.
In fact. WoP. Looks and plays infinately better just not as supposedly involving. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

I bought it three weeks ago...knowing the "problems". Hoping the patches/fixes will catch up to my investment? You pay your money and you take your chances...Do you feel lucky?

TBH. I,ve just had another play about setting up and understanding control set up. And to be fair There is definetly a Great Sim in there.
The newest patch has made things better. However SLI/multithreading would suit me/Save me more money.
It is supposed to be coming.
I'll wait some more. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I don't think an awareness of the complaints and berating necessarily equates to a full knowledge of the problems. The message of those who shout the loudest and most repetitively should not be ignored, but it would be foolish to make them your leader because they do this well.

I bought it and I'm glad I did, check the screenshot thread for some of the reasons why.

I'm a junky - and I'm willing to take what I can get until the sim (hopefully) gets finished and begins expansion.

Bought with full knowledge via JustFlight/Steam here in the USA. Why? Because it's there. Heck I paid $45 for FSX in 2006 and it sat in its box for 4 years before coming to life with my i7. Doesn't CoD at least deserve the same?

This weekend, using the latest beta patch I flew the QMB mission against the Ju-87s. Not exact perfect, but at times the aircraft visuals were 'virtual reality'. When CoD finally arrives, IL-2 will be left in the dust.

I did, and although I have a low specs Pc I can run this sim although not at full settings. No I don't regret it,it can only get better. Can run with cockpit on at 20--25fps over land, 30---35 over water.

I bougth the Russian version, and then the English version on release,so I knew how bad it was.
Still can't quite believe the state of it though, and even Luthier has said that people have a right to be angry with the state of CoD...
Personally,I have less than 20 hours logged, and have not touched it for a couple of weeks.
I will revisit it after the big patch, but if they don't fix multiplayer damn quick its dead to me.

G'day All,
Am avidly watching the comments on 4 different forums, waiting for the tide to start turning.

That said, I will absolutely buy it when the "Frustration Factor" has subsided a little. Have been playing IL2 since v1.0 and can see CloD and it's addon's as giving another decade of fun.

Cheers,

T_T.

I have my eyes on it. But i will wait until the major share of technical issues have been fixed by patches and the modding community had its hand on it for a while.

Visually, it looks absolutely stunning. Love the details of the cockpits. Water reflections , sunlight and ground look awesome.

It just seems to lack the damage model and damage physics of Rise of Flight though. With that it would look even more brilliant http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I bought the Collector's Edition.

No regrets at all. There's so much to discover and appreciate even though my system is not top notch.

CoD will be every much a winner as the original il2 was.

Check out my contributions to the Screenshot thread.

Best Regards

Few bugs, needs some optimisation butother than that its what I expected. A resource hog. Just like IL2 was.

I bought it a day or two after the UK release, by then from Russian and UK reports we all knew there were issues, but I didn't care because I knew damn well 1C:Maddox was not going to leave it that way. I was right, I am very happy with this game. When zooming in to gunsight view and pulling the trigger, there are moments when I swear I'm looking at real guncam footage. Performance is quite acceptable on my PC, I get 50-60fps over water and 28-45fps over land/towns. Hell, that's better than what I got when I first started playing Il2, I started out with 2.04 FB+AEP IIRC, on a Athlon XP 3200+ Barton, 2x512 RAM and a bloody GeForce Ti400 or some such, got 18-25fps back then and still loved every second. It seems like people have forgotten what it was like to play Il2 back when an AGP 6800 ULTRA was the best graphics card on the planet (and cost $1000.00 easy) and people were getting 45fps in perfect mode (this was before new clouds came out) and were amazed! The FM and DM in Il2 was tweaked and updated in every single patch to one extent or another, every single one. The FM and DM in CloD is already lightyears beyond 1946 and will only get better as they are refined. Sure, there are some bugs, sure it runs like a dog for some (though I don't understand why it would run great on my older Q6600 4GB DDR2 system and crappy for others) though I think there's more bark than bite due to the beta patches, yes it was released too soon, but I strongly believe that this was forced on them by the publisher. Given all that is wrong and needs fixed, can I play this game, can I do full missions in the campaign, most importantly do I have fun, HELL YES! I haven't fired up 1946 since I got my control profile set up for CloD, a month ago! I don't see myself doing it again any time soon either, just the complex engine management alone will keep me glued to CloD. If someone came to me and said they were going to take CloD away from me and give it back in a few months when it's "fixed" they'd come away lookin like Wile E. Coyote after a long day chasin roadrunners....

I kinda feel the same way ...tho I'm still working on getting FPS up to snuff..I wish Oleg would have been able to give exact PC Specs - I think his minimums are pipe dreams to get this thing to get up & go!

So what is currently unplayable for you, I know its far from perfect in fact a long long way but it is playable for me, Ive had quite a few online fights and offline has been fun as well, there is currently no campaign to speak of etc but it is playable, thats not to say you arent having issues as some cards, or PC setups seem to be working better than others, Im up to about 80 hours since the Western(sans North America)release.

Not sure if you have tried any of the Betas, I find the first of the last 3 is good for online play and the third of the last 3 is good for offline, I'm getting pretty reasonable frames over land and sea, of course if you are talking about the missing comms and other issues then depending on your perspective I guess some may consider it unplayable.

Im still having fun with CEM and a few Df's etc, but I would hope some of the promised features that aren't currently working are fixed fairly soon, as it would be nice to fly some coops or some form of a reasonable campaign if your an offline player (DCG?)

I bought it because I didn't think the problems could be as bad as people were making out. I was wrong, it's the worst game I have played in a decade. Lets hope the devs realize it's far from finished and concentrate on the main things. Not things like crappy number plates that nobodies interested in.

Same here but I had to upgrade the PSU too in order to be able to upgrade the graphics card. COD runs pretty well and my other sim, namely OFF, look and fly brilliantly.

Reinstalled the sim thru STEAM ,added the 4 betas & I'm sold. Not perfect but game play with its limitations is addictive...hyptotic. My advice to others wait for the N.American release these betas & more will be automatically added in what will have to be a big patch...

I held off until last week, and I bought a new rig at the same time (i5 2500, GTX 580, 4MB ram).
Although my expectations have been lowered by the reports here and elsewhere, I wasn't expecting much more than some eye-candy, and was rather cynical about things, but having enjoyed Il-2 and the superb ongoing support since its first release, I remain confident that the issues will all be resolved in the fullness of time.

So, here's my experience:
The game installed from Steam complete with the latest patch without drama, and ran from the off with details set to medium/high. I've since put the latest beta patch on.
In-flight it's smooth as silk and is unaffected by having 15-20 aircraft in the sky at once. Up until now I've stuck with single missions/quick combat as I'm still getting to grips with my new Logitech G940 control set-up.
The game has been 100% stable, and is the most immersive gaming experience I've ever had. Some of the AI aerobatics are a bit too 'Pitts Special', but otherwise I think the gameplay is spot-on.
With TrackIR4 and a Force Feedback stick it's very convincing, and the flight dynamics are excellent (although I can't really justify this as I've never flown a real aircraft more than 30 degrees from wings-level!).
It has some disconcerting graphics anomalies; flooded terrain at altitude and occasional paved sea near the coast, but gameplay isn't affected.
I only get noticeably low frame-rates when taxying, but then only when certain ground textures are being used.
I don't know what frame reates I'm actually getting because it just hasn't been an issue yet.
I haven't tried MP yet (I'll get murdered!) so can't comment there.
Yes, there are some niggles, but overall I'm really enjoying things, and the potenital of this sim is huge.
I can only say that the early release versions must have been shocking, as I've had none of the reported issues. It's also evident that some folks have had PC issues which have hobbled performance. It seems to prefer Nvidia cards?
I haven't played Il-2 1946 since I installed this, and don't expect I will (unless MP is unworkable).
As it stands, this game is very playable for me, and I would recommend anyone to buy it - it is certainly no worse than any other early release game (never mind early Il-2; who remembers early Lock-On!? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif), and the only question mark has to be whether all the bugs will get sorted. Experience indicates they will, but that's just my belief.

I may just have been very lucky, and I'm grateful to all who endured the early frustrations so that people like me could step in after the big issues were sorted http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

I just installed the game on my machine-
core2 duo 2.4 (o/c to 2.93)
Asus P5N-E32-sli motherboard
8gb DDR2 800 ram,
win7x64,
HD5850 card,
ACER V243HL (24in monitor)
and surprisingly on testing with the 'Stuka Intercept - Chain Home'track, and 'the bomber intercept over water track'
it runs at 70-64fps on medium, 40-50 on high
('go figure' as its a 5 yr old computer thats OK for me ) although I set the resolution to 1680x1050 still looks reasonable though,If I use the 1920x 1080 it falls a bit slower- obviously
I have run Crysis 2 maxed out-(All on High)as well as other recent FPS games (Black Ops, BFBC2 etc)
I use the launcher in the steam/steam apps/IL2 COD folder to start as its quicker to load instead of the steam desktop link to COD

After reading all the negative posts from people here I find the game playable and visually good, better than IL2 (original)on the old machine I had way back then (900mhz 512 ram and 'can't remember the video card')-which was above minimum specs at that time (then all we had was a 15in or later a 17in monitor to use)
Maybe some here are too used to playing FPS games with smaller map size and hence less overall loading on their computers.
Considering that its the start of a new progression that could last for 10 years -like the original there is massive scope for improvements in all areas
But for now with the limited time I have spent on it (7-8 hours) I find it entertaining, visually heaps better that IL2-46 and a worthwhile investment.

But I also would like to know how to get the text off the screen as I can't find anything in either of the config.ini files
Still how to tweak the config file would be good news for me and I presume many others to fine tune their experience.

These figures surprised me considering the feedback from other forum users-- maybe the gaming Gods are smiling on me who knows!!

I had preordered it and had it on release day. Even though my computer is more on the low end, I still do not regret it. Since the development team is just as crazy as we are, I am confident that this game will be in time a worthy replacement for IL2 1946.
