Im moving this computer into the other room for work use only and I am getting a new notebook pc and im curious as to which one to get. Ive tried the game on another computer and I couldnt get it to install couldnt even get the installation window to come up. I assumed it was probably because the cd-rom/dvd-rom drives were combined into one drive and on this computer i have two seperate drives.

What are some of the notebook computers that people are using out there that SHIII works on?

Going with an Alienware brand myself but dont want to go all out to exceed the recomended stats on SH III and SH IV and then it dosent work due to the notebook only having one drive that is a cd-rom/dvd-rom combined drive.

Thanks in advance

Guess I should post the specs of the notebook im looking at also.

Processor : Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7400 2.16GHz
Operating System : Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
Display : 15.4" WideXGA 1280 x 800 LCD
Motherboard : Alienware Intel 945PM + ICH7 Chipset
Memory : 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 667MHz
System Drive : 120GB Serial ATA 1.5Gb/s 5,400 RPM w/ 8MB Cache
Primary CD Rom/DVD Rom : 24x DVD-ROM/CD-RW Burner w/ Nero Software
Video/Graphics Card : 256MB Nvidia GeForce Go 6600
Sound Card : Intel 7.1 High Def Audio

Not sure if this notebook will work consider the first post i made talking about how i couldnt get it to even install on another pc that was newer than this but had a single disk drive that was a dvd and cd rom drives.

I'm not an expert at Notebooks, but those specifications seem very good, except that you might wish to double the memory on the Nvidia GeForce video card, to give it a bit of 'future proofing' before you buy it and not as a later upgrade (assuming you have room to make a few choices before you buy it).

Thats the only option from alienware that they have is the 256MB GeForce 6600. I did future proof it alittle I did pick a graphics card that is supported by SilentHunter IV. Hopefully it will run SilentHunter III.

Did upgrade or i should say downgrade from vista to windows XP and i upgraded from 1GB ram to 2GB and from 80GB to 120GB harddrive.

I just like the game so much cause of the graphics that I want to be able to play the game anywheres. SH II was good too but i just like the destruction of SH III

I'm playing SH3 on a laptop atm...except for the low speed (1,85 instead of the 2 ghz recommended)

It plays fine...just a bit jolty at times since my graphics cards is pretty basic...

I'm running it on a Intel Centrino 1,85 ghz, 1gig ram, 128 mb ram vid

I'm just haviung a hard time figuring out the short keys since I don't have the numpad ofcourse...Where is time compression?

to adjust the time compression where you see the green number to the right of the 0 to 25 meter depth gauge/0 to 250 meter depth gauge, theres a plus above the number and a minus below the plus increases and the minus decreases time compression.

Now I found a cheaper notebook than the alienware and Ive heard bad things about alienware. Not sure if the graphics cards that i have an option of picking between will work the best with SH III and SH IV.

The specs on the other system is a AMD Turion 64 x2 Dual-Core TL-60 2.0 GHz processor, a 1 GB DDR2 ram, 240 GB dual hard drive, a 8x cd/dvd drive, and the graphics cards are either a GeForce Go 6150 or a 256MB GeForce Go 7600.

Hi Rusty,

Yeah the little plus I knew how to use, just that its frustrating that for the 'shortcuts' I cannot find it...I have an Italian (keyboard) laptop U see.
I can only toggle between 'Pause' and speed 1 with backspace... but no key for faster

thanx anyway!

You could try using the keys to the right of the backspace key. Theres a +/= key and a _/- key which should operate the time compression also. I think ive done that once before by accident
