I always loved the fact that heroes has some RPG element that help the strategy part.
But all the demos i saw focus a lot on the hero advancing and battling. But it always felt like i was looking to an RPG demo more than a strategy game, they show the nice graphics battle, etc. But very little i have seen about the strategy part of the game, in fact i always see one hero and one castle. i want to see more about the features of the town, and how map does help the strategy game more.
Battle is important yes, but more than it is map adventure, and the only thing i see is a hero walking and killing.

Are you talking about H5? If yes, I do not see any evidence so far with all I have seen regarding H5 that it's moving towards RPG. In fact, H5 is more towards strategy than RPG but when it comes to battles the Hero is going to be more "involved" than in H3 but not participating in combat like H4. This means that the Hero is going to be able to use some specific abilities while in combat.

Also, this idea of strategy is bigger than RPG especially when were talking about Heroes. What I mean is if there is some basic elements of rpg like leveling up and gaining new abilities well that is part of the overall strategy and it always has been in Heroes. And, I prefer H3 than H4 but I also played H4 and I think that H4 is also more strategy than RPG. The problem with H4 was the mecanics and the rules of the game and it wasn't balanced right. It never made any sense to me to have 1 Hero destroy zounds of peasants. And alot of other tid bits too that made the game un-balanced which I won't go into now but all in all it was a "OK" game.
