Yes I'm probably aware that there are a few topics about this all over the place. None that really address the issue I am having myself.

Basically everything is crystal clear when plugged into the mother board via USB while playing Rainbow Six Vegas 2. I hear audio from all parties including NPC squads win in multi player and clicks when selecting buttons in game.

But whenever I remove the USB, considering I wish to utilize my sound card instead, and plug directly into the sound card; everything disappears. Often times audio is horribly attempting to 3D the effects and when playing via commanding NPCs or even listening to others command NPCs, I don't hear their communication.

Currently using Creative's Sound Blaster 24-bit. And because of having issues with other games it was advised to use the sound card instead of USB to the motherboard.

Try deactivating the onboard sound via the BIOS and using only the SB for all sounds.

I had a similar issue with rsv1. If I use the 8 Channel Realtek HD audio (onboard) Everything is crytal clear, sounds amazing... I disabled that and tried using a SB Auddigy2 zs instead - big mistake - all the sounds were muffled and dull... unless they were coming from within 2 feet of my character... And most games would crash frequently... (never happened with realtek sound)

My advice... Use realtek HD audio... Superior quality sound, and the clearer sound gives a distinct advantage over muffled ones... I can pinpoint an enemy within approximately 30 feeet of my character's position through sound alone, especially if they use ropes or something...

Sounblaster just aren't what they used to be... The onboard sound that motherboard manufacturers are using these days is getting better and better... I have 3 different soundblaster cards... There's no point in me using any of them... The sound quality is poor compared to HD audio, and when the sound quality is acceptable, the system is unstable... My games never crash with realtek... They do with creative...

I have these same issues. Using a usb headset on my motherboard gives me very good 3d sound, but when i use my 5.1 headsets plugged into my sound card, the sound is very buggy. I cant hear the talking going on in the game and sometimes the sound dissapears for a short time. Its annoying, seeing as this is the only game with said problems.

I really like my soundblaster, as it gives me exellent audio in all of my games, except rainbow 6 vegas 2, which obviously does not like my soundblaster, like crysis doesent like my processor. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

When using USB headsets your system loads different drivers and your sound is set to 2 speakers.

When you use your speakers, (5.1) you usually have to go to the control panel for your sound card and change it to 6 speakers.

Also, you may have to go to Windows control panel .. "Sound and audio devices" (Audio and Voice tabs) and set this option back to your card.

Hope this helps!
