how to keep rank & weapons?

I played online once a while back. Then I played again yesterday, I had 9 diamonds somehow.

Today I played capture the diamonds or whatever it's called and started from scratch. Worked my way up a little and got a nice weapon. Server disconnected and now I have nothing again.

Is there no way to keep your rank and diamonds and weapons across sessions? How waa I able to keep 9 diamonds from before but now I can't?

I guess I am NOT referring to "ranked match" since it requires Punkbuster and I didn't install that. I have tried every game on the list.

If you want to keep the diamonds the only way is to play ranked.
Some player match servers admins will give you some diamonds to start with. Most don't. You will always lose them when you quit though.

So that means I gotta install Punkbusters? Far Cry 2 disk won't give me the option to install it from there now. So I guess I gotta uninstall my whole game just to add this.

I tried their website, it will not load.

You should have PB already installed but it may not be up to date.

use this:

PB setup (http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php)

launch it, click add game,in the dialog box select FarCry 2, then browse to the farcry2 bin directory. path to the game will be in your program files/ubisoft/farcry/bin

NOTE: DO NOT direct it to the next level down into the pb directory cuz it will make a new pb folder in the pb directory which you do not want.

If you are using vista you will need to add a couple paths, same procedure. (add game, etc..)Add the following paths:
C:Users\(the name of your computer)\AppData\Local\Punkbuster\FCX\pb
C:Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Far Cry 2\bin
So when you are done you will have the PBupdater program showing two instances of Farcry 2 in the box.

Click "check for updates" and you should be good to go.

Yeah, I had already done that, except I didn't add the extra line you said. I did that just now. So I got an extra FC2 that says "not loaded." I am running Windows 7, but it is similar to Vista, so I guess that's right.

Nothing else works anyway. I have spent 6 solid hours trying to get this asinine program to run. Why is this necessary just to play a game online? I spend good money on a game and I get harassed by activation restrictions and anti-cheat software that does not work.

I have gotten every error in the book regarding bunkbuster. Now since your advice, I got:
"API Kick 131133: Known cause: Ventrillo Voice Overlay - Possibly other overlay programs. (ATI tool tray from Omega Drivers suspect)
Solution: Disable overlay program"

I have no clue what they are talking about. If I am not getting kicked for that, I'm getting kicked for

"Failed to download map"

Or for any other number of error messages.

Also, every time I run that PBsetup, it says I'm a first time user and is empty and I have to start over.

This is really disappointing.

I’ve seen this fix around for Windows 7;
In the service properties and check the Allow service to interact with desktop in the logon tab.
For both PntBstrA and PntBstrB

Sorry, I don't have a clue what any of that means. Can you explain?

You must mean PnkBstrA.
I found that in my Services window and when I select properties for it, I get a new window, and I checked it to allow. There is no PnkBstrB.

It didn't help, I still get kicked.
