Hi guys, I am just wondering... what is considered cannon on a British RM WW1 Coastal monitor as secondary armament?

Contenders are...

WW1 US 4" gun (As on HMS Campbeltown ~ Of St. Nazaire raid fame)
WW1 UK 4" gun (As on a Flower Class Corvette)

I am building a WW1 ship and need to give her sec. armiment and don't know what to order! lol. the US gun looks better, but is hte UK one more cannon? I don't know what leand-lease was like during late WW1.

Thanx, David.

According to "Big Gun Monitors" by Ian Buxton, most were built with 12 pdrs as secondary armament, though this was in some cases upgraded with heavier stuff. It would seem that the only American guns used for the monitors were the eight 14" guns originally intended for the Greek battleship "Salamis" which was being built in Germany. These guns were used as main armament on the "Abercrombie", "Havelock", "Raglan" and Roberts.
So, best bet would be the British 4" gun.

Karl_Donitz_Jr;

I have always thought that the British monitors were really neat ships!

Be sure to post pictures as the project progresses! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Sure no probs klcarroll. She is actually a fictional design based on Douglas Reeman's book "HMS Saracen", and will be named that. She is all primer at the moment lol.

The hull is pretty much finished up to the weather deck with detail and weapons to add. I am just building the hatch comings. Pictures when they are all done, but it will be big and red only! lol

Ha! ........It's a small world!

Douglas Reeman's book was what first got me interested in the British Monitors years ago!

Some of the Great War monitors also saw service in WW2, most notably HMS "Terror" and HMS "Erebus", so perhaps your project could be an addition to SH3 as well?

Could be GerritJ9 except for one small problem....

She is a 6' Radio Controlled boat, NOT a 3D model http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif lol
