View Full Version : Game looks hot, but...

I've read everything I can find about this game but I don't see any mention of squad-based warfare. While 4 person co-op missions are fine and 16 person deathmatches might be some folks cup of tea, I still long for the days of Novalogic's Integrated Battle Space (IBS) flying F16s, MIG29s and F22s. For years my squadron participated in leagues where teams of 8 (some mix of fighters and bombers) would run best 4 out of 7 matches whereby your team had to destroy the other sides bases before they did the same to you. Unfortunately, from what I can see, Hawx can't handle anything other than co-ops and deathmatches. If I'm wrong someone please chime in.
Thanks,

Why would you think that?
OGF and AC6 both have very good siege type games. No reason this can't. Personally, I can't stand deathmatch and will need some mission-based gametypes.

Why would I think that? Well, I read the press release and, as I said above, it describes 4 person co-ops and 16 person death matches but nothing about squad or team-based play. Hence my question as to, am I missing something?

Fortunately, you won't have to fight alone. HAWX supports four-player jump in co-op throughout the campaign. There is also a Vs. mode where up to 16 players can battle online for experience points and in-game cash, which is used to unlock new weapons.
Yeah, I see what you mean.
Doesn't specifically say deathmatch, but it sure would be nice to get some real info out here to confirm what we'll be getting.
Full campaign co-op should be nice, I hope that means running different roles to support each other.

Your story about IBS really sounded cool and hope we can do it here. Bombing dudes, fighting dudes sounds tight and sounds like great teamwork.

Even if the game wasn't really MEANT to have the roles of certain aircraft in it, I am sure that you would be able to make it work anyways. I can't imagine myself playing with some buddies, in my A-10, without having one of them cover my back with a fighter. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Hopefully we'll get some official word on these things soon enough though.

lets face it, all we really want to do is to have everyone playing online in one map (the earth of course!) and to be able to fly between airbases and fight people across the world. Ooh, we can even have it country based where people from their respective contries start out in that country's airforce. would be awsome no? even maybee have some new things for intelligence officers, awacs ops, presidents ECT. to make it more lifelike.
think of it, some noob from the U.S. who got the game first could declare war on all the nations right off the bat, then we can finally see what will win, the F-22A or the SU-50 PAK-FAhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Ah yes DGTP430, the times we had in IBS were grand in deed! Not only did we have leagues, Novalogic maintained a bunch of free servers where you might see tags of 15 or 20 squadrons in one room at any given time.
And yes, a lot of teamwork was necessary to be sucessful. Bombers would be on their voice channels calling targets. CAP (combat air patrol-I know I know, everyone know what that is lol) voice comm would be busy as HELL calling new in-bounds, missile launches, re-arm sequences etc. Ahhhh man, just about gave me wood just thinking about it. LOL But seriously, in all my game playing days (before or since) has a game had the physical effect that IBS had. Right before a war you'd actually get butterflys. Funny thing is, you'd TELL yourself it's just a game...but that didn't help. Once the war started it was stress city. Heart rate through the roof, plams so sweaty it made it hard to grip your Sidewinder Pro. If Hawx can be half the game IBS was I'd be one happy camper.

it was meant as a joke as that is what fighterops is supposed to be whenever it comes out. without the presidents and intel officers and playable awacs and such. I also think it would be a little too much realism for most people ya know? i mean, who would want to sit for 20+ hours in a plane waiting to bomb a target that you can't even see and then have to sit through the same 20+ hour flight back! makes me sleepy just thinking about it... Even being a fighter pilot like me, the longest flight I have ever been on was 8 hours long and that took its toll going around the 6 hour mark...
besides, what is IBS anyways?

IBS stands for Integrated Battle Space. It was an air combat environment created by Novalogic back in the 90s. Basically it allowed their standalone flight sims F16 and MIG-29 (and later F22) to come together in an on-line environment and battle it out. Back in the day there wasn't anything better. Janes/Falcon 4.0 etc. were top notch products but they didn't support the massive game play IBS offered.

sorry, but isn't integrated battle space a system that the U.S. armed services use to coordinate their forces in real time?

LMAO, no need to apologize. I can see where you are confused. The IBS I'm referring to was created by a GAMING company in the late 90s. The IBS you are referring was a VISION developed by Roger Roberts and his Space and Intelligence Systems division at Boeing in the early 00s. The DOD allocated $200 billion (over 5 years) in 2003 for it's development. It still isn't complete and I'm sure it never will be just because there are always new little goodies around the corner.
Now, if I had my CHOICE between playing Novalogic's IBS or DOD's IBS, I'm sure you know which one I'd pick. LOL I just hope that Ubi has the smarts to build something like IBS into this game. You would think it would be a no brainer but....

I really want online co-op. I'm now a co-op junkie. Perhaps drop in/drop out e.g. Lego Star Wars and Haze?

Yeah... they were some awesome wars back then, We pretty much stuck with F22L3 though. The wars were intense, and the pump you got before it started was crazy. Wish someone would develop a game that has fighters chasing bombers again. I remember when I first started playing L3 I saw CMDR Massacre =SE= just dodging missile after missile. I said to myself. I need to learn those moves. sigh... makes me want to dig out my 3dFX voodoo card...lol
If they build it they will come!

I always thought AWACs on multiplayer was a good idea. But then again people would rather be playing than spectating. And if the radar and visual graphics good enough you can see whos being chased by a missile or enemy anyway!
