Just returning home when I get attacked in the bay of biscay by a destroyer in late 44.
20 mins into getting away I get pounced on by some Sunderlands.......... 13 of them!. That many they even crash into each other!. Whats going on, anyone know, anyone else getting this?. Its happened several times all over the map and I know they didn't hunt subs in packs that bloody big!...........
Newbie on the block although many hours played, all assistance gratefully received.

You are in late 44, and are considered a newbie. Did you start from Sept 1939 ? And why are you just now posting in UBI, we dont bite. Take your coat off and stay a while. The door is always open for you.

Hi Tuddley, I did say I'd played a few hours like about........... 10 full campaigns!. Newbie to the forum was what I meant.I need to upgrade the sim, I'm no PC expert though however simple it is. I've seen nothing bigger than a bogus carrier and 3 light cruisers in campaign mode. I'm looking at the forum shots and additional info screens for ports etc and thinking that'd be nice. Trying to upgrade etc now.

Even in stock game I don't try to fight a sunderland pack. Its too difficult. In GWX, a sunderland attacking is probably truly terrifying and will lead to mass reduction in hull integrity.
Stock game you dont lose hull integrity to bullets, but in GWX you do, and nothing sprays bullets at you quite like a sunderland. Not to mention its payload of bombs!

I know what MOttie means, though. I've had 15 Sunderlands attacking me en masse in the Bay late 1944, and a group of about 12 attacking me in a Norwegian fjord in 45 - too shallow to dive, too rough to man the guns.
And if you shoot one down, then half an hour later 4 come at you, and if you survive that you can expect 12 or more.
Sorry, but I don't remember reading or hearing about Sunderlands attacking in large groups. 2 at a time, perhaps. Having said that, I'm going to investigate the historical side of it.

Guys, I've loaded the grey wolves upgrade, an accomplishment itself - trust me - and its great!. Only 2 patrols in and I'm sneaking through the channel to get South of Ireland to my patrol zone........ Oops...... here comes the DD...........

I've loaded itall and love it. However when I submerge I get no indication on the surface as to which direction I'm travelling in. I have to use the scopes wake or get the bearing of the warship chasing me down and go external view to estimate which way I'm facing in relation to the attacking ship. in both cases I have to use external view to work it out. Have I put a tick in the wrong options box?. How do I get that directional indicator back?.

The direction indicator was removed in GW and GWX, as far as I'm aware it is irrecoverable, never really missed it as if anything it spoiled screenshots and I tend to use the sonar bearing on the map screen to gauge where the bad guys are!

OK, thanks for that,
Reckom I've got a glitch though, I get intermittent sonar reports and the bearings dont always show up. A bonus is I get 'ship sighted at' but cant see it using uzo, bino's or scope for a good 30 seconds/minute usually, However I can go to 'phones' and manually scan and there it is!. Go to the operator and click follow nearest sound contact and............nothing!. My sonar op couldn't hear a DD at 20 knots running in for a depth charge attack yet picks up freight at long range. Angles were off the bow and not in my wake. Glitch I guess.

Oh I cna do that! Being a prize idiot myself!
Step 1. Go to the main SH3 Folder where it is on your computer. so that will likely be...
C drive. Then
Program files. Then
Ubisoft. then
Silent HunterIII
and now you are in the main folder.
Step 2. Double click "data".
Step 3. Double click "Misc"
Step 4. Paste in your marker. before doing this decide if you want to keep the GWX Marker or not. It is there but as Messervy told me its just transparant. If you do wish to keep the marker copy it to a safe location before pasting in the original Sh3 marker. If not just paste in and replace.
Step 5. Close the window now.
Step 6. Test it!
Step 7. Say thankyou Demigod! LOL!!
