I know, I know. You're all sick of hearing about it, and wondering if it's really worth waiting for over a decade. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif But if you are as excited (http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif) as I am, it's all worth it!!

If you're playing (or plan on playing), what race do you use? What are some of your favorite builds? If you don't play, would you like to learn? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

I'll probably add more stuff later, just wanted to get this started. xD

Arumi I'm so glad you started a thread because I definitely wanted to go on and on and on about it all day http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I always preferred Terrans for their flexibility, especially in this game.

I think we all should get some 8 person team or FFA games going for sure http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Terrans ftw.

But really, give me my damn LAN support already ffs.

Amen Pino, I hate having to be tethered to battle.net like this.

Liking the single player so far, but I'm getting a major Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly vibe from Jim Raynor.

I'm also a Terran fan, I found them to be the most balanced. Also, the protoss cannons aren't as effective as siege tank/turret/bunker terran defense (SC1). http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif And zerg defenses are just frustrating!

BCA is giving me a copy, which I think is in the mail (!!!) - I just have to remember to give him monies for it at PAX, if I get to attend! The waiting is killing me though, I feel like I'm going to fall behind on build strats http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

The lack of LAN support is really frustrating, though. It's going to radically change Saturday night gaming sessions here at the apartment... :x

I like the Single Player of these games, but I get owned as a noob in MP. =( I'll still probably pick up this game soon.

I used to run training mods to get build orders down. After you get good with the mods, you can begin to get down the keystroke and build timing. Eventually, you can hotkey build units, create squads and defenses automatically, depending on the game type. ^.^

Angelusjc
07-28-2010, 03:01 PM
Some of the best ways to get good:

1) Learn the hotkeys, you save so much time knowing the hotkeys than clicking frenetically at a hundred things at once.
2)Spend it if you got it! You should never have more than a few hundred crystals and a couple hundred vespene gas. If you got the cash, spend it on everything, and if you cant spend fast enough, build more unit producing buildings.
3)Watch your replays, see what others did that bested you and learn from that.
4)Play your friends. Your friends are more likely to give you positive feedback.
5)Expand your base asap. As soon as you're comfortable with your defenses, build an expansion fast. This is easy if you're Terran cuz you can build within your base and lift off.
6) As always, practice!

I'll hopefully be picking this up soon! Argh! I already feel rather behind, but I'm sure I'll catch up in no time!

Thank goodness I'm half Korean, so I already got the micro part down, haha! <3

Jess, you might want to try a guest pass to make sure it's your thing. RTS games aren't for everyone. However, I love it, and I personally think you would love it too. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Ask around and see if someone will give you a guest pass for a free 7 hours of play. That should definitely convince you. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/inlove.gif

I'm just sad that I have to wait for an expansion before I can play Zerg campaign. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif But it's ok, online play is better anyway. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I also play Zerg. Because of this similarity, I would ordinarily make a pass using Zerg-related lingo, but somehow the prospect of adding infections and worms to the mix is unappealing.

However, I have always found Zerg the most fun to play, and will likely continue to play them for another ten years.

(And, Arumi, yes it's worth the wait. Given Blizzard's track record, it'll be better than at least 80% of the other **** publishers have been pushing as "the next great game.")

Edit: The soundtrack, artbook, and USB dog tag are pretty spiffy, too.

It lets you play campaign as well. Just remember that the only campaign is Terran, and the other two will be released as expansions.

Oooooh. This sounds so awesome, I really can't wait now!!! An actually challenging AI to play against is really hard to come by! Personally, I like games that give you the option to play an AI that puts you at a distinct (and sometimes frustrating) disadvantage. I think it helps you to better develop your strats. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

That's good to know the pass allows you to play the campaign.

The interesting thing is that while I love playing as Zerg the most, I preferred the Terran campaigns because of the story. I thought the whole Arcturus Mengsk - Jim Raynor dynamic was very interesting and quite well done.

I estimate I'm about halfway through, and to say it is 1/3rd the game is the same as saying The Hobbit is 1/3rd The Lord of the Rings.

Well, in the original Starcraft game, you play missions as all three races. So it's like you're getting three different storylines.
In Starcraft II, you're only playing the Terran's story. (And a few side missions as Protoss) They're releasing two more expasions (or they might be full games, I'm not sure) where you can play as Protoss and Zerg. So a lot of people feel that the game really isn't "complete" until they play the full Protoss and the full Zerg story.
I personally really enjoyed the campaign, and even though there were no Protoss/Zerg storylines, I don't think it really took away from my overall enjoyment of the game.

I had an awesome 2v2 match in multi-player last night. Me (Terran) and another Terran vs Terran/Protoss.

My partner went Thors and I went Battlecruisers. Then we mopped 'em up! We kept 'em at bay the whole time by harassing their expansions while we were building. It was good times http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

I definitely need to speed up my early game build order. I'm not as fast as I used to be, that's for sure. Some of the new units are distracting, because I want to use 'em all http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif.

Still, good times. I'll be on tonight if anyone wants to player some multi-player with me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

The "player code" or rather ID number you need to add people on BattleNet, is found by hovering over the character portrait of a gamer. It will display the code once you've done this.

This is what I had to do a couple days ago when Magiz was trying to send me a friend request.

FYI: for anyone interested, I've started doing some vs. AI games with my brother. These would actually be really good opportunities for any of you new players to learn, as they mostly consist of me trying out new rush strategies, analyzing them over Ventrilo to my brother, and attempting to recover because invariably I ****ed up by spending more time thinking about the rush than I am about the current game.

The benefit for you new guys: see how a rush comes together and how to defend against one (the computer, even on Normal, seems quite capable of defending against a rush.) This, of course, will lead me into delineations regarding the nature of rushing and its benefits.

In short, I've been on the forum and seeing people *****ing about rushing. I will help you be the type of person that should never die to a rush, and I'll even help you come up with ways of ensuring your economy is impacted less than the rusher's (which means you just eff'ed over the rusher more than he or she did to you.)

Also it's for some good fun because if you join us in Vent, you'll hear me ***** about my day! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

(Not really, but it could happen.)

Also: it gives you a free opportunity to grab replays without having to tarnish your precious record. As a side note: if we get enough people, we can definitely turn it into an all-player's match instead of players vs. AI.
