the game named a convoy a taskforce with lots of cargo ships escorted by 4 warships. I was hoping it would have a battle ship because it was going at medium speed. However it was a large convoy. How can i tell the difference so i don't kill myself just to realize that it is not what i think it is? how do you send contact reports so you can experience attacks of the Luftwaffe? is it better to attack single merchants or wait for large convoys with plenty of targets? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif Thanks in advance.

Never heard about the game saying that a large convoy was instead qualified as a taskforce. Once, i came across a large convoy with 3 escorts, and the game said Large Convoy. In my opinion, it is always better to strike at a convoy. You will get all the targets together. What i like to do is:
*First, i complete mi objective (patrol grid XY XY). I often engage targets of oportunity, only if can sink them with the deck gun
*Then, i always head near AM27 and i start patrolling there on my own at AHEAD 1/3 to economize fuel, and after 1 or 2 days of patrol i always pickup a convoy

Task force are made up of battleships and destroyers. I have seen one and do not recall any merchants amongst the battleships. They were also hauling butt! Also, I had noticed that the battle ships all stayed in single file line and not spread out like a convoy in columns.

This is a bug that's been around since release. What happens is if there is a regular merchant convoy that has a warship in one of the columns, instead of assuming an outside escort position, then the radio position reports wil identify it as a task force.

True task forces are always making at least 21 knots aside from the hunter killer groups that make 12 knots.

Taskforces with battleships usually go 21kts, there was just a post on Subsim about one doing only 8. There's a recurring mini-taskforce with 2 light cruisers that does 30kts, anything with a Bogue escort carrier usually does 14.

Yep, you're right. I said 12 kts, just checked some old reports and the hunter killer groups around the Jeep carriers make 14 kts, not 12. My mistake.

Look at teh speed, "slow" is a convoy of merchants {dont panic if you note a aux cruiser, uit has no asw capability unless you sitting on the surface}. Often "medium" is a lone ship {coastal or on ocasion a tanker or two}

I fit reads as "fast" then ther is no slow tankers, or cargos and most likely a fleet of warships heading somewhere.
