can't downgrade vio settings

Hi, I try t downgrade video settings from GRAW2, from the original autodetect, so I can get better perfomance, but instead, i get white screen without texture, the default setting are to high for my system:

Dual Core 2.0Ghz
Nvidia 8600M GS
2 Gb Ram
Vista Os

How can I get a better performance?

I know for a fact that the GT model of the 8600 works, but I don't know anything about the GS model.

Why did you get a GS? GS is a really budget card with cores disabled (usually).

Yes I know, it came as part of the deal I think... anyway... the default settings work fine,except for the low fps, wich was what i wanted to change, i just wanted to tune down those settings and not demand more of the system, actully the auto detect feature puts the whole settings in high mode...
