Watch it.
i'll try to keep this short. personaly i think it looks like a huge let down. this is not what i was expecting at all. apparently they did not make realistic mountains, instead opting for super extream mountains. there are giant jumps all over and massive gaps. it did not look like they captured the feeling of carving down a steep slope. having all those camera angles is stupid. how are you suppose to feel like your in the air if the camera is ten feet above the characters head. skate has this nailed. one camera angle right behind the player. o and your gonna tell me this game is based on phisics and i can jump off a cliff fall 40 feet land on flat and ride away, very believable. i hate saying this but YOU CANT DO THAT IN REAL LIFE. what makes skate awsome is its hard to get off the ground and that makes if feel so much bigger, this should be the same for a snowboarding game. mega ramp is the sh!!! just imagine hiting jumps like that on a snowboard it gives me shivers. i know everyone is going to compare this to skate as they should, because in skate you cannot defy physics, you must land on a sloped surface or you will break many bones. but the thing that really looked bad to me was the characters animations. especially on spins, the rotations are not smooth at all to be honest they look just like amped 3. im sorry but i am not impressed this looks like amped with dual analoge stick controls and better graphics. idk i am really hoping it comes out better than it looks.

are you kidding me that looks amazing

i agree with you tan. the spins look a little sketchy but this is my theory. the guy who is playing obviously doesnt snowboard. so hes trying to do as many rotations as possible when he airs. in other words he just throws the stick one way and holds it till he lands. what im thinking is that if you can control the speed at which you spin than the spins could look really stylish and realistic with the controller in the hands of an experienced snowboarder. in the beginning of one of the videos he starts out riding and pops out a nice, slow, flat land 180 which i was very impressed with so im not that worried about the spins that much.
my only beef is how unrealistic the landings are which is almost entirely the fault of the crappy untextured looking snow. also it seems that you can land 90* and not even feel a bump sometimes.

i thought about the landing too i thought that when those people landed that the boarder looked like he hit the ground too hard even though it was on a slant and some of the drops they do onto flatground would kill you

I agree 100%
I dont like the camera angel that is really high above the player, and the landings looks really unreal.. The mountains also look a bit stupid, I hope that the parks will be wery reakistic http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif If they fix a few things and make it more realistic and a bit more like skate, this game will be sick though! i have been waiting a loooong time for a game like this, so thanks ubi and shaun!

I think some of those camera angles are there to make it look like a snowboard video when you play. I don't like the landing either, but he said that you progress, and the animations look better. Also, this is only the E3 demo, things might change.

They really need to make real park jumps.
1. Normal booters are in steep terrain. They need to have a landing area. you cannot possibly drop 15 feet to flat and land. so jump, flat, down.
2. step-up kickers. they need a couple of those. Like the one in "Up in the sky" snowboard movie.
3. Corner Jumps. I already seen them in the game, so that's cool.
4. Rollers. Like normal booters, but instead of flat it actually goes up after the jump. Those are placed in not so steep terrain but steeper than stepups.
cool thing about those jumps would be that you actually need to figure out the right speed to hit them just like in real life.
And if you're dropping to flat you should actually get pwned.
here a video to illustrate
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hvcb6KzOwiw
1. normal booter: from 0:56 - 1:12
2. step up: all jumps in the first 20 seconds
4. roller: from 1:14-1:20

well, I thought this at first but then I came to reality realizing it is pre-alpha testing its not going to be perfect yet, but I have high expectations for the game, considering most websites said it was going to be released last year

Alright. My 20th birthday is on December 4th, so I wanted to be able to get it by then.

I agree. It could be SO much smoother. It looks a little too much like Tony Hawk, where simply crouching down doubles your speed, and you instantly stop spinning when you want. I really hope it doesn't come out in this condition. It needs to be a LOT smoother.

I have to say the gameplay footage is very disappointing. I understand the game isn't finished yet, however I was still expecting something better. It almost looks like another amped game, which amped 3 was horrible. I'm sure there's people who don't wanna compare this game to skate because one is the skating the other snow, but I think it is rather fair to compare them. skate took skateboarding games and revolutionized them. We were all playing tony hawk for so long and once skate came out it was incredible, and I think thats what people are expecting out of this game. I know the dev team for skate worked a long time on it and I would rather have ubisoft spend a long time also instead of the game coming out immediately and not being so good.

theres a new gameplay vid up on ign.
looks pretty sweet this one

Yeah i saw the new vid, once again im not impressed. every jump the character just seemed to pop into the air somehow by a miracle of god and then the player looks extremely stiff in the tricks.

101 i completely agree. he actually jumps off of booters. when you ride a booter in real life you barely jump off of it. its more just getting the speed so you can ride/fly off it. this new gameplay trailer is bs. makes the game look even worse now.

It's good to see that others think that the landings look sketchy too. When I first heard about this game I instantly thought of "Skate" only with snowboarding. Now I am seeing these videos and it seems to be turning more away from the realism of skate and more into the realm of huge jumps and mega-combos.
Some problems I noticed:
-The snow looks pretty unrealistic. When you are shredding on powder, you should have powder flying out from where you are boarding and see a line in the snow from where your board has been. When you land a huge jump or wipe out, you should see a cloud of powder come up from your landing/wipe out. It just seems that the same powder animations are being used for all the different scenarios.
-The wipe outs. I agree with you Tan that the wipeouts are unrealistic. Well I should say that when you do wipe out, it looks unrealistic. There should either be a real physics system in place (a la Skate), or have a ton of different wipeout animations for different scenarios.
-The landings. It seems that you can land waay to much stuff in the game. When I see a guy grind off a log, over a huge gap, land another grind on the top of a damn house, then launch off into a huge drop, I instantly think Tony Hawk.
The developers should be thinking simple. When I snowboard, I don't think "Ok, I'm gonna hit that huge jump and do like 10 tricks". No. I think simple. A 50 on that rail down to a 180 melon on the kicker into a 360 tailgrab for the finish. It's all about the smaller, simple lines that gets me pumped. Not all that crazy 10 trick combo stuff. I can only hope that the developers start showing off that aspect of this game in future videos and not all this craziness.

I think the problem is that skate was developed by skateboarders who happen to have a degree in game development. the people making the game understood skateboarding and knew how it needed to be. I dont know much about the studio developing SWSB but i get the feeling that while they may be extremely talented game developers their not familiar with snowboarding. So in other words during the development process shaun can articulate ideas all he wants but maybe the developers have no idea what hes talking about.

It would be a lot like skate and all but it would keep me in the tree runs, also, first person view...

i got an easy solution. take skate.'s game engine and add snow!
