Has anyone seen the movie "A Bridge Too Far"?
It's about Operation Market Garden and attempts to tell the whole story while focusing on the British in the far north in Arnhem.
It was like the "Saving Private Ryan" of 1977.
Good flick. I remember the theater where I first saw it had an American tank out in the parking lot. I thought it was cool but at the same time I was dissappointed because it wasn't a Sherman.
Ya'll check it out.

yeah i've seen it. it's a golden classic, but as you've said, it it's made in '77 and my personel opinion is that the creators kinda left out the ww2 setting, and began changing the setting into the late seventies. other then that. i like the movie.

The tank in the theater parking lot looked like the heavier one that was replacing the Sherman later in the war, the M26 Pershing.

i don't think so... the movie was made in '77, right? so the pershing would be 22 years old. and as a tank expert and tank enthousiast my self. i'm pretty sure that the creators made a deal with the Dutch-German govermant to use their up to date leopards. they did it in in other movies, Ever heread of a 1961 movie called ''Battle of the Buldge''? they weren't exactly floating on money either, so they repainted some Chaffee's and other late ww2 early postwar stuff and made it German. but i founded that out when i was 2. i defintly knew how a Köningstiger sounds, looks and smell like http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif because i the in the 1961 movie they told the public that they where fighting against Köningstiger's but it weren't in a 'slightest touch http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Anyway. the tank that you saw couldent be a Pershing. the M-26 arrived in late February in '45 and they weren't assigned until then. the only two brigades that HAD perhing's where in the Ardene Area and they moved on to Aachen (Aken) and they weren't in Holland at the time of the Operation, and that's way you've mistaken an ''American'' tank to the Pershing. Could it be a Chaffee? an M-18 Hellcat? or a M-36 jackson? i think it's the last one because it's based on the M-10 jackson, and it had the turret of a Firefly....

...well, in terms of equipment used... the film is pretty good... Longest Day was excellent...Battle of the Bulge was a disappointment in terms of the equipment....biloriffo i just don't like your analogy of the film to Saving Private Ryan....

The best WW2 film is ''Saving Private Ryan'' and the best WW2 serie is ''Band of Brothers''
I've seen A bridge too far and the Longest Day too , but Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan are the best films ever maked!

Does anyone know of any other movies besides "A Bridge Too Far" that is specifically about Operation Market-Garden? I think it was the only one. Therein lies its relevence to Hell's Highway the video game.

Are you serious Eisner? By the way there is either one or two episodes that deal specifically with Hells Highway but do not mention it in Band of Brothers.

it was not ''real'' horrible. it's entertaining at least,...but i watch it everytime it aires.
and yes, i know they used a T-54 for a Tiger, just because Tiki wasen't ready yet. but i know the fact's in such manner that it is terrible. remember the part when the ''tiger'' is about to cross the brigde? you can see a camera-man stands i the way. even HOLLYWOOD can't cover that!.

to be continued....

well, if you take a look at the moment the ''tiger'' crossed the brigde, you can see a Hollywood Camera-man standing with his camera, but,...Honestly. i haven't seen it in personly, each time i'll try the phone rings or something, and i miss it each time. try to google it. they have a great succes on to critisizes a movie! and SPR is a favorite.

If you dislike a movie because of a few technical errors thats just not right considering every movie that I know of has at least one in it. So Eisner what WW2 movies do you like?

On the bridge too far remember the captain who gets shot in the head and then the private saves him and frettens the surgeon with a gun? well he really exists and it just so happens he was the C.o of fox company pretty conveniant right? but i think they twisted the storyline,he did survive but i dnt think the private had to stick a gun in his face in real life

A proper movie, for the time. They used Dutch Leopards to be German WWII tanks tho. That is one of the major let down for me.

I suggest the next time you want to add a thread to a topic, to knock off the use of the swear words Itdog. Got my drift?

If any of you guys are interested in reading about this from a 1st person point of view then I recommend Donald Burgett's books. The one dealing with Market Garden is called Road to Arnhem: A Screaming Eagle in Holland.
