I hate to admit being such a newbie, but I just upgraded my internet connection to DSL and am trying online play after two years only playing IL2/FB/AEP/PF offline. How do you do it? When I use the "play it on ubi.com" option none of the games which appear work. I always get a "game host may not be compatible with your game" message. I have the fully patched 303 PF and FB/EAP/PF installs.

Any simple advice for a novice?

Do you have a firewall on your pc? and are you allowing the game to connect out through it and the gameserver ( UBICOM)to work both ways?) if they are not it wont, it needs to be able to access the internet and update your game in real time..... For 3.03M you want to join a game that says version unknown or similar as that is a 3.03M one........... you canot join a 2.01..3.02 etc version as that is an earlier one, also are you trying to join in the PF forum as that is for the stand alone one, you need to be playing in the Forgotten battles one.

As you are now on DSL i think this will no longer affect you but check to see if you have default in the IP window of the set up if it is select the lower number to open the set up on windows go start program files find the ubi folder go to last window as if to start offline from the menu then click on set up and onto connection............ as said you might not have this as DSL tends to have just one IP.

Ignore the game host not compatible, this can often be caused by the host running a NoCD patch on their game, (Sorry for mentioning the dreaded words here Mods.) I Beta tested the UBI Com software for all the games on it and when we went to run a game of Forgotten Battles amongst the UBI Staff and the Beta testers we had so many different versions showing due to the NoCD's in use they wrote them all into the UBICOM Software to allow us all access. That can trip the message, but if its a 3.03M game you will still be able to join it. REMEMBER it has to be a 3.03M and NOT as 3.03 version.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I really am a wet-behind-the-ears newbie when it comes to internet play. I did ignore the "not compatible" messages on UbiCom and tried to enter several open games. The program would then start/retart my game and attempt to connect to the server but I always got a message that I couldn't connect because of a "timeout" Could this have something to de with my Norton firewall?

yes make sure the game is connecting through the firewall, easiest way to check if it is the problem, turn it off and try to connect, if it does, turn it back on and check the firewall settings for the game.

other thing is to check in set up for the ip as that is a major cause of the fault, on the game loading screen do you get the correct version show bottom left corner ie 3.03m and also have you got the game elsewhere on your pc from the default location? if you have did you patch to that location or just patch it automaticaly, if you did that and the game is in say a game folder or other drive it will have not installed correctly into the game folder, so check that and come back or give me a time and i will try to come to ubicom to help you
