I'd like to load a fresh install of SH3 (1.4 with no mods) for Multiplay, and then have another copy loaded and completely modded out for Singleplay.
I think that's the safest way of having the best of both worlds here, without crashing anyone on the ubiserver.
I've read mjr_health's post about the dual load on the subsim forum ("multiplayer and mods")
But I don't feel comfortable on doing it right. Is there an easier way of doing this.
I have one hard drive (C), and I would like to have two different loads with two different shortcut keys to it. Can this be done? SHOULD this be done?
Is there and easier way on how to do this? I'm not very savvy on this...
DOH!!! guess I could have posted this in the Com.Help forum...sorry guys...

hmm well, i don't see how you could install two different types of the game on the same operating system without finding problems.. but i suppose u could try a dual-boot operating system.. with windows xp and windows 98 with two differnt versions of sh3? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Thanks for the info Blue, but maybe I read the major's post wrong.

He stated the following: "If you want to play multiplayer then you cannot have any mods that chge any config files, as the game will either crash or you will be kicked from server. The best thing to do is do a clean install then copy the sh3 folder to another drive or directory and create a shortcut to the new exe. The copy can then be modded and wont affect online game, the original install can then be used just for online. Graphic mods like clouds ,wake etc dont seem to cause an issue but you cant run with rub."

Hey blue and/or bob....Does this make sense?

well, i haven't tried it.. but it does make sense.. according to what he says, all u have to do is install the game in a directory, then copy that directory to a new direcotry like lets say: Silent_Hunter3. then, i'd guess u'll have two copies of the game in two different directories and u can make as many modifications to one as u like and use the other original one for online play.. makes sense, but in practice.. i don't know, haven't tried it.

Theoretically it may work.
The game No.2 uses the same registry values with the game No.1 and therefore can be loaded without causing any discrepancies.
