View Full Version : F-15C Tutorial pdf!

After reading a lot of posts on this topic I discovered a lot of people aren't happy with the manual. There is a lot information missing. Which is true. But I also found out a lot of people apparently haven't done the in-game tutorials, because a lot of the 'missing' information can be found in those tutorials! These tutorials are VITAL! When you read the official manual and follow the tutorials you will find there actually isn't much information missing after all...
I bought Lock On mainly for the F-15C. I followed the VITAL F-15C tutorials, but I found out it's hard to remember everything, so I followed them again. And still I found out during my flights I forgot a lot. So I started making notes, but I ended up with a big chaos: lots of notes on lots of pieces of paper...
So I decided to make a document of the tutorial's text, which I could print and use as a reference during flying. Which is resulted in the Lock-On F-15C Tutorial.pdf.
But (warning!) this pdf is VERY simple! It only contains the text from the tutorials, which I edited a little (I removed things like 'To exit this mission press the 'ESC' key' and so on). So there are no pictures and no fancy stuff! I did however make all key commands red so you can find them easily (I noticed the some key commands are wrong or missing on the high-res key chart).
So, in order to benefit from this pdf you have to follow the F-15C tutorials! But after doing this ONCE you will know enough to understand this pdf: you will remember what is it all about. The pdf is nothing more than an easy to print backup which you can use while flying! That's all. But for me that's more than enough! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
You can find the file on this 'site': http://www.geocities.com/jeroenlockedon/Lock-On_F-15C_Tutorial.html
Have fun.
Oh yes, one more thing... I hope I didn't do anything illegal by making this pdf available (for FREE). If so, please let me know instantly! I'm just trying to help, so...

Thanks, but I already solved it by making a 'site' with just a link: that works. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
And for everyone who is afraid to download it because of it's size: it's only 48 Kb... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I've added a Lock-On_Keychart.pdf in the same fashion. Nothing new (and certainly not the first either): just the KeyCommands.doc restyled in the F-15 Tutorial style (well, as far as you can call it a style... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)
A lot of people still use the Keychart which you can download from the LO-CAM site, which looks good, but is really useless because a LOT of keys aren't on it and some are just wrong...
So forget about that one and use the KeyCommands.doc (you can find it in your Lock-On directory) or use my pdf (which has everything nicely grouped). Print the pdf double sided on two A4 and you've got everything grouped nicely together, without that awfull are-we-back-in-the-eighties? document style.
BTW It contains a lot of extra info not found anywhere else: if everyone would have read the KeyCommands.doc right away a lot of questions wouldn't have been asked over here...!
BTW 2 I also think the downloadable Keychart has misleaded a lot of us, including me, because it made me think all the keys were on that downloadable chart! So I had lot's of problems with certain strange things happening due to the fact that I didn't know that I was acytally pressing keys with a function, if you know what I mean. There is also info about functions of certain keys which you will not find at all in the in game control option screen, like the Keypad 0-'any keypad number', whih let's you see quick close ups of the oancel. Fot instance.

(Pity you cannot edit a post after 60 minutes anymore...)
What I forgot to say: don't forget that the F-15C BVR mode (specially the TWS mode!) and the AIM-120 don't work as they should! I advice you to stay away from them until they are patched. That will save you a lot of frustration (and I know what I'm talking about, believe me...!http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)

The file has been downloaded 175 times now. Thta's nice for such a short period. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
I'm thinking about adding new pdf's in the near future. I'm currently working on a pdf or some sort of chart which shows all modes for all missiles for the F-15C(which modes to use with which missiles, with and without radar).
The manual nor the tutorial is very clear about it all. And the Keychart is even worse when it comes to usefullness concerning the different modes (for the F-15C, that is).
I've laid all the info side by side and I see there are some strange contradictions (boresight under different keys, radar on and off for the same mode). Strange stuff.
So I will try out all possible combinations tonight (or tomorrow or whenever I got time) to see what works, what doesn't and what isn't explained at all in the manual or tutorial.
I'll let you know when I finished it. Maybe one day there even will be a full blown LO-MAC F-15C for newbies manual! For free! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif But don't pin me down on it... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Thanks a lot. Long waited step.
I am also working on a manual for Lomac weapon usage, especially on F-15 because this seems to be the weakest part of the reference manual. I actally want to do a little more than unifying and re-editing ref.man. with in-game training, but your guide is extremely helpful for me. Apart from that, it is the first initiation that has a downloadable result (I am at about the middle of my guide).
Together with Borahn I opened a private topic for this purpose. If you are interested in any cooperation to make a free manual, feel invited.
nice, hope you post more useful tutorials

Hey Carl...
It took me 3-4 tries over a 2 hour period to get in on a T line. I guess there's a bandwidth limit.

This is fun! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Thanks Mr_Berkut for putting it on a server with no data limt (or at least a more generous data limit! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )
I'm currently working on the F-15C WVR combat missile guide. I spend about three hours yesterday evening starting the F-15C Quick Mission over and over again in order to see which keys do what in which modes. I had to do this because I discovered a lot of weird things: the modes certainly do NOT work as they should, which makes it all VERY complicated if you don't know what you are doing! Well, when you've got the modes activated, they do work, but to get them activated is no easy task, because the info from the manual, tutorial and key chart is completeley wrong in some places.
I was planning on making a nice pdf with pictures and all (!) but because I presume some of the weird 'features' are actually bugs, that would be a waste of time: it would render all my work useless after the very first patch. So I think I'll make a simple pdf of it (just like the tutorial) or even just post it on this forum.
My biggest problem now is to tell it all as simple as possible: it's pretty complicated because every mode you are in influences the mode you want to go to. Or not. Anyway, this new tutorial will be nothing more than a guide on how to enable a certain WVR combat mode for any F-15C missile. Anf this isn't as simple as the provided info makes you believe...
I'l let you know when I've got it all together... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Jeroen: Nice, Nice.... Can't wait to see your other Guide/Tutorial.... Maybe after the patch some of those odd buggs with F15 get polished off, then you can just add few pics if you want to make PDF look pretty... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif You don't even have to re-word anything or wrap guide around pics, just have a few for visual reference... Guess till then, we'll just have to wait and see what patch brings to us... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Thanks again for your work, great reading material for everyone...
P.S. Pics arenâ't always needed, just makes your work harder explaining something without visual referenceâ... As to myself, I would just read it on screen of my 2nd PC while having Lock-On up on my primary (yea yea I can always print it, but that would mean flying with lights on in the room!! ) so visual reference isnâ't needed muchâ... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
