You can do just about anything on ice in this game! I built this sweet airbase on the shore of the frozen in Balaton 2. The AI pilots won't take off from the ice though...

Hmmmm, I tried to land on an ice covered river one time and sank. Maybe larger bodies of water are OK !

Empire, what AI aircraft were you trying?

With the following exceptions, AI will take off on any reasonably flat cleared solid surface away from official FB airfields, and they take off in formation all at one time.

If you guys got different results, then thats does it, they have shipped different FB code in different FB boxes and still call it "1.0"

Thanks Flak, I will check into this. I get great results on, for example, the frozen Volga river in the Stalingrad map (that is the big north-south running river in upper center of map)

I once saw tanks try to cross a small frozen river in the Moscow map, they sank, but on other frozen surfaces they do fine.

Well, it wasn't one of those... and now that I think about it, I remember that there just wasn't enough room behind me, so he took of from a different dock.

Can anyone help locating speach file's for british and american mission builds , i know if you generate a mission with some u.s. aircraft skins some come with u.s. english speach, ground control also has english accents.

I tried landing on a frozen river over the weekend and was successful and after coming to a stop took off again. That was with a fighter. I tried it in an IL2 the first time and perhaps touched down too hard.

...I had made a map of Stalingrad and was re-supplying the city across the frozen lake with trucks protected by mobile AA. The path was lighted with campfires placed every 1/4 mile. There was no problem with the trucks or AA falling through the ice until the Stuka's came! IL-2's and PE-2/3's were able to land next to the trucks as well...
