remove white?

does the program remove white work with gimp does anybody know and if so where do i go about finding the program?

Here is a tutorial which basically repeats what M4Sherman says below.

You have to change the color white to alpha


Go to layer then Transparency then hit color to alpha then hit chose color and Choose ffffff
