Hello All,

First off, I really like these new boards, much better than the old system!

Secondly, I've been following this game somewhat passively for a while now. I'm a long-time Myst fan, I've played the games, filled the pages of countless notebooks with diagrams and jotted notes on puzzles, so I don't consider myself to be a complete n00b when it comes to the worlds of Myst. That said however, I'm just a little bit confused over all the fiction generated around this game.

I understand that the attempt here is to paint the most complete work of fiction surrounding a video game ever, and I think a good job is being done because I'm confused out of my mind as I try to follow the various threads from the old board and all the hinted references from interviews and Q&A sessions with the Cyan guys. I saw some stuff about the real-life puzzle work involving Zandi and was very impressed... but still confused.

It seems this has been a game operating in reality (both physically and over forum discussions) in preparation for the release of Uru and subsequently the launch of Uru Live. Where I am confused is I'm just trying to get a coherent idea of what's been going on, what's the backstory that leads up to this moment? The game's manual is sadly brief when it comes to story or general information.

My question for you, the Uru community gurus, is this: Where (if anywhere) can I find the information that's been floating around in forms of cryptic forum posts, real-life scavenger hunts, mysterious phone calls and so on? Has anyone pulled all of this together over the past few years? I ask because I really would like to get a better feel for the story Cyan has worked so hard to craft.

My thanks to all those who are able to help...
-Mike

Well I'm no guru, but you can find a lot of background info on the DRC site:

I've spent a good bit of time perusing the content at the DRC, as well as the Guild of Greeters, there just seems to be so much floating around that isn't covered. I saw hints of all of this reading the forums. Many messages point to old, incomplete pages with info on what's been going on the past few years, but nothing near complete.

Have you ever read the Myst novels? There are 3 Myst novels that tell a lot of backstory about Myst, Riven, and D'ni.

I'm actually going to head out to my local bookstore this weekend in search of the novels. I can find the last two on Amazon, but it appears the first is now out of print.

Those are the only 3 novels as far as I know, and as is noted on the Cyan site, all three are out of print, so getting ahold of them is generally tough.

I have all 3 books. I read the first 2 and am working on the 3rd. I also played the first 3 games, which they all had a good story to them and a good background to follow. And now in URU, there is so much info to sink in i cant stop, and i want more.

From what is mostly there i have a really good idea of what is going on, but there is still some pretty big holes that need filling. And most of those holes will be filled the farther along we play the game in Live.

Read the books and anyother info you can, most of it is in the games and the novels.

Good luck on seeking the answers you are looking for

I'd reccomend a local library, or a friend.

Although i personaly like to own all the books I read. I think most Barnes n' Nobles i've ben to hang onto the book of TI'anna pretty well, but yeah, libraries are nice.

Amazon does list all three as in stock. They're used copies though.

Just read that review linked. Good review, though they state Ti'ana was the mother of Atrus (rather than his grandmother)...

We don't seem to hear much of Keta, why's that?
