View Full Version : 1st. person view a.k.a. the HUD

The first person (HUD) view, has anyone really looked at it?
It makes no sense.
Whoever designed this pitch ladder had his head so far up his keaster he couldn't tell which way was up.
It looks as if it was designed by a 2nd grade school dropout who cleans latrines in India for a living.
First off, the thing is divded in increments of 50 degrees and goes from 0 to 200, WTF? That's nonsense.
Even a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away they would be using basic Euclidean geometry in designing a HUD.
Basically it would read -00- as level and go up and down in increments of either 5 or 10 degrees to +90 degrees, straight up, and -90 degrees straight down.
On top of HAWX HUD is an arch of vertical hash marks where the compass headings should go.
NORTH is 360 degrees, EAST is 90 degrees, SOUTH is 180 degrees and WEST would be 270 degrees.
On the sides of the pitch ladder are the scrolling speedometer on the left and altimeter on the right with little windows in the center of each.
When you set the HUD options to Knots of speed and feet of altitude the little windows reflect this selection but the scrolling meters do not, they stay at Kph amd Meters regardless. This is weird.
The whole HUD is weird.

You're right about the HUD. Even in the one view that supports it, it's not very functional. It's odd how some parts of the game shines so brightly and yet others have fallen thru the cracks without a notice. If you guys are gonna make a flight game be even halfway realistic, you're gonna have to start paying attention to details more, especially when it comes to user interface. Some of this seems like lazy crap

Quite; I'm definitely going to avoid that view... well, not that big a loss seeing as I don't use this 'virtual first-person' view in the other flight-action games I have, either.

Look, it's very simple. The only view you are meant to play in is the Assist Off. The other views are only there to put them on the box. "We have cockpit view!" They are not functional.

I heard from a friend that they fixed the 1st. person HUD view numeration in the PS3 HAWX demo.

Maybe the Devs ARE listening?

yeah, they did, they are numbered and you can see the what's up and what's down
