I get introduction sound, sound taking linking book out, but thats it. No music at all. Ihave Radeon 9200se video, and via ac 97 audio controller. Please help? Jer2.

Try turning off the EAX stuff in the sound controls. If I remember right, the VIA onboard sound controllers don't support EAX. Also, make sure you have the latest versions of your sound drivers and DirectX 9.

Answer:
Make sure that the critical file wdmaud.sys is dated 3/21/2000 or newer. This Microsoft article lists several problems with the original Microsoft Windows 98SE WDM drivers including:

problems with USB microphones & sound recorders
MIDI file issues
volume control issues
audio stops working entirely after the PC has been in power-saving mode
and many more
Please read the article carefully and if you are experiencing one of the issues mentioned, download and install the Microsoft patch, Q242937.exe. Then un-install and re-install the VIA AC97 driver. Note that you must read the Microsoft article carefully as the hotfix is specifically only for the issues mentioned in the article.
