How to PURGE your computer of each & every trace of HM&M 5 (copied from one of my posts, on another tech thread):
1. If the game refuses to uninstall from Windows's add/remove-program function, manually delete the whole folder where you had installed the game.
2. Go where the profiles are saved (on WinXP, it should be at C:\Documents and Settings\[your Windows user name]\My Documents\My Games. Delete, there, the whole HM&M 5 sub-folder.
3. Run a "registry scanner". If you do not have one, download the following freeware, which will remove, for free, the left-over HM&M 5 entries : CCleaner, version 2.03.532 (find it with Google). Once installed, run its "Cleaner" function (top left), and then, its "Registry" function (just below). If you want to play it safe, only check to delete the Registry entries which are obviously related to HM&M 5.
If you execute your purge thoroughly, there will not be any trace of HM&M 5 left on your hard drive. You can then reinstall the game from a clean slate.
Patch it immediately after installation : either use the update function which comes with the game, or do a manual patching (which would require you, for the basic HM&M 5, to download SEVEN patches and install them, one after the other -- a tedious process which I prefer).

Have you tried through regedit? Start -> Run -> type "regedit" (without the quotation marks http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif) -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> probably the registries are in Nival Interactive or Ubisoft folder -> delete everything. This should purge all pests preventing the reinstall. Sorry if you've already tried it though, it's not very clear up there...

1. The Windows add/remove program sometimes leaves an entry in its list, even though it does not correspond to any installed program.
2. Oups... I forgot to mention something important. You also have to remove the Install Shield info related to the HM&M 5 installation!
Here is how you do it :
a - You have to be able to see the "hidden" folders & files on your hard-drive. If you have not activated that option, go to the Tools/Folder options/Display list (at the top-right of any opened XP window), and check the "display hidden files & folders" line (My WinXP is in french, so your english wording might somewhat differ from my translation).
b - Then go into the now visible C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information folder.
c- You will there see a bunch of folders with numbers & letters. You have to go inside each of them until you find the one related to HM&M 5. You will be able to identify the proper one by double-clicking on the Setup.ini file, which will open a text that will identify the installed program.
EDIT (P.S.) > See my post, below. I there produce, at last, the list of the H5-related ISII sub-folders.
d - When you will have found where the Install Shield HM&M 5 installation-info is hiding, you must delete (or displace in a temp folder) the whole numbered-and-lettered folder. Examine each & every Install Shield folder : to be sure that all HM&M5-related folders have been removed. The Setup.ini text-file (not always present!) identifies the association of the folder with an installed program.
e - Run a Registry Cleaner after that, to allow it to delete the Windows Registry entry associated with the removed Install Shield Info folder. That entry will not be directly related to Nival and UBI, in the Registry.
3. Registry cleaners do not always remove all traces of an uninstalled program in the Windows Registry (located at : C:\Windows\Regedit.exe). I somewhat agree with the previous poster...but with this caveat : do not fool around in the Registry if you do not know how to do it AND create a backup before entering the Registry (a WinXP Restore Point and/or a copy of the Regedit.exe file). A messed-up Windows Registry can have extremely dire consequences.

Yes that Installation folder still there, is blocking the reinstall.
It is not on C:\, but on C:\Program Files.
But Sorceresss you have the game (i don't), so you could easily check and tell him which folder it is! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
It's easier: no need to make hidden folders visible.
Just put
C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information
in the address bar of Explorer, hit Enter and you're there.

Sorry, my mistake : I forgot to type in "Program Files". http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blush.gif
I have corrected my previous post.
@ harrywoodward : I'm happy that coming to this tech forum has really helped you.

Oooh, I'll have to try this after getting rid of the installshield info. I've been trying to fix this for months off and on and it hasn't worked so far. I'll give that a try

Great !
Yea...few people know about that InstallShield Installation Information situation.
Some can't uninstall and/or reinstall because a "hidden" ISII sub-folder is lingering in the shadows.
I can add the following information to this thread, for future reference.
The basic H5 ISII sub-folder is labeled :
{28101984-0BA6-40fd-9ABE-72F62F80C06C}
The HoF expansion's sub-folder is :
{4272516D-0E81-48ef-AB66-7F6E28B4A615}
The ToE expansion's sub-folder is :
{66FF4C48-0083-4E60-8556-B883AB200092}
