Duh, ofcourse it's not listed as a supported card... it was released after the game after all.

But the card is made to run all games.. new ones and old ones alike. It supports everything that older games require in order to work, so pretty much the only problem with these new cards are the drivers.

DA did not work on the 8800 cards for a while because there was no driver avaible to support it (most likely because the card was released pretty much at the same time as the game, so Nvidia really didn't have the chance to test the game), but with the latest drivers (97.92) installed, the game is playable. Make sure to read release notes, if the game fails to start.

dont listen to this guy and fall for the ubi scam

this game still doesnt work for 90%-100% of 8800gtx.. dont buy it till it works for sure, dont get scammed like the rest of us

every other game works fine on 8800gtx except this one, ubi is a freak and doesnt program properly, and doesnt fix the problem, using some freak method even tho the game is nothing special to look at, their just all wackos.. plain and simple

dont buy, pirate it instead, make up for some of the dough 1000's of people lost

I don't have a 8800GTX, but I do remember a lot of people complaining about how they couldn't play the game properly with it, even after those new drivers were released

Surprisingly, it isn't a problem with DA, but with your video drivers. You need to install non-WHQL drivers (one of the betas) to get it working.

It works with my 8800GTX after small help by Mr. Google:
1) You should have the 97.92 nVidia driver installed.
2) You have to lauch the game with the -ll switch, i.e. create a shortcut to "C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent\SCDA-Offline\System\SplinterCell4.exe -ll"

I can't say if this particular driver version is absolutely necessary, as it was already installed on my system. However, if I tried to launch the game without the -ll switch (whatever it means), it crashed without displaying anything and in event viewer there was an error log saying something about an unhappy d3ddrv.dll.

Even with all that stuff I can't turn on both HDR rendering and antialising in game settings - I can either have the one or the other (maybe it's a normal behavior). There's also no support for widescreen 1680x1050 resolution in display settings, but I typed that directly in splintercell4.ini and it seems to be working.

Can't help myself not to feel a bit disapointed - the Double agent is the only game having such problems on my new PC so far...

I too have a new 8800 GTX and SCDA crashes upon launching with a Windows error that says something about app compatibility.
Here's what Ubi has in their support website about the problem:

The Nvidia Geforce 8800 is not a supported video card for use with Splinter Cell Double Agent. If you own a Geforce 8800, you still have the ability to play the game.

First, make sure you have the latest drivers installed. The original driver released by Nvidia is not compatible with the geometry in Double Agent.

Next, turn off HDR within the game video options. If HDR is left enabled, the background of the 3D environment will appear distorted with different hues of color.

Does anyone know how I would turn off HDR without launching the game? It's gotta be in one of the .INI files

Oh, by the way; I have the latest nVidia 97.92 driver installed. Still no joy. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

It sucks that the frogs at Ubi did not plan ahead for the 8800.

The HDR is set in C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent\SCDA-Offline\System\SplinterCell4.ini, in section Graphics, the option bEnableHDR=True.

But in my case the problem was apparently not in HDR. The only way I can launch the game is to append -ll (two lowercase L) as a switch to the single player executable.

Looking some help for the technically lame on how exactly to execute the game with the -ll switch. It won't let me create the short cut with the switch added. Says it can't find the file. Thanks.

The way to do it is not intuitive. I'd suggest you look for a thread that describes how to do this. Basically, you create a new shortcut and run the single or multi player program directly.

Check this thread out:

Also, this may sound stupid because I can't try it myself, has anyone gone into the nVidia control panel and tried to disable SLI mode for this game? the 8800 and the 7950 both are SLI cards internally. And this game does not support SLI.

It's just a thought. Seeing the posts about seeing only parts of the scene made me think that you may be getting the output of only part of the SLI. By forcing SLI off, it "should" stop that.

I'd just like to know if anyone has tried that or if it's even possible on those cards.

I have the 8800 GTS and have tried the -ll switch at the end, it works, barely. I was able to get the game to run, but the background is messed up. Using normal vision, you see the skyline constantly, only switching to Night Vision or Wave Vison are the images normal. Hopefully there will be a solution soon.

I'm sorry, but I really don't understand your post.

By "forint" do you mean "points"? Did you buy the game using "points"? Or did you mean something else entirely?

Got it. Thanks. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

So you spent ten thousand Forint for the game? That's about $52 US. That's more than the game sells for here. That's a raw deal.

I would have thought that since UBISoft is a French company that the game would be cheaper in Europe rather than more expensive. But I guess taxes are a lot higher there and drive up the price. I think you can get the game here in the US for about $40, now. Still too high for what you get in my opinion.

Same UBI did for me when i bought Faces of war,had to wait 3 month for a patch to get it work on my pc, guess i will think twice before i buy anything from UBI.

I have a 8800 GTX and I got the same problem when I had Anti-aliasing enabled in the Nvidia control panel. I switched it to Application controlled and that fixed it for me. Hope that helps.
