For those of you who are complaining about the lack of "realism" in this game, please understand that Ubisoft Montreal first developed this game on a PC for the XBox 360 and Playstation 3... then ported the completed console version back to the PC. Now you have to consider how crappy the hardware of both those "next-gen" consoles are compared to PC hardware today.
The biggest thing to note is the maximum amount of main memory RAM both consoles have (which I think is 512MB). That's not a whole lot of RAM in today's PC-gaming world, so perhaps that's why there's no living world of NPCs who go about their lives and bring in real-time reinforcements to the checkpoints from the HQ in Pala. Maybe that's why theres no random people walking around (or maybe because at the beginning everyone was leaving the whole 50sq/km area behind).
If this game followed "realism", your gun wouldn't jam at all or wear out because you'd be able to clean and oil it while in a safe-house. Child soldiers would be shooting at you with AK47s as well and you'd have to kill children (we can't have that type of video game ANYWHERE). There'd be a massive amount of dead corpses lying around randomly at the sides of roads. Regular patrols at perhaps platoon-strength would be roaming everywhere from check-point to checkpoint and you'd surely die if you engaged them. All the bad guys are mercenaries hired by the two warlords (no militia apparently), so that's assuming they've all had military experience and are well-trained in tactics and marksmanship, meaning they'd kill you all the time with 2 taps to the head.
So stop complaining about the lack of realism. Just hope Ubisoft comes out with some dev kits to mod the game with and some nice people out there will make "realism" mods for you to play and make you less grumpy about a very good game that doesn't have that many bugs (not as bad as S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s release... not even close). http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif
