How can I get rid of that ugly ship shadow which appears when I look through periscope ? It's there even it's pitch black night or it's raining etc
Is there a way to tweak something (files) to see just the ship and the sea line (in the horizon)...or ? Thank you in advance!

Are you referring to the ship reflection? Could you provide a SS showing what's bothering you.

Yes it's the ship reflection. In daylight maybe it's not so bothering but night and when you look from very far through periscope is ... soooo irritating and ugly.My guess is the effect was not worked enough to coop with different aspects of day/night and with distance. It was made just to be seen from very close as a cute effect. In a way it reminds me of the light bug from SH series (sun/lights are seen even through solid objects). Anyway I would be grateful if there is a way to get rid of it completly.

Strange I don't have that problem. I understand the light bug and what you're talking about, but don't have the problem.

Can you take a SS of it so we can see if it's normal or not? Have you tried playing with any of the in game graphic settings.

What vid card and drivers and mods are you using.

All right I will provide one soon...
I use w_clear environmental mod 4.7 , I have all graphic options to high,I have a 8800GTS 512MB board and 182.50 drivers. I doubt the graphic card or settings could be the problem, because as you'll see, the graphic are sharp, they look very good. We'll see.I'll be back with some screenshots.Thank you for you support!

PS - When is night (I didn't have the patience to wait to make them) those shadows look uglier because is pitch black and they spring out as WHITE to gray (the ship is "invisible" to eye because is dark but those shadows aren't...Grrrr!!!!), trust me...

Is that SH4 Uboats or SH3. I seldom play the Uboats in SH3 and only once in Gold. It appears to be Gold edition from what I recall and you didn't mention GWX.

I can see it in the periscope shots, but not really on the others.

Basically it's just the reflection, part of the normal game, although poor in quality compared to what I see. I checked out the Uboat SS's of both games and really didn't see reflection like you have through the scope. Either way the uboat graphics don't match what's available for SH4 fleetboats.

Have you tried it without the env. mod or is there another one you could try. I would head over to Subsim and post in the mod forum related to the game and check out the SS threads and compare.

Hope someone can help....

You can't see it BECAUSE , obviously, those are ships (with ugly shadows) ...and the other ones are subs (which don't really have...shadows), aren't they ?http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
It's SH 4 with Uboat mission addon (SH3 doesn't have THAT graphic , how could you ask such thing?http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif )...so...it has to..."match" with those boats , they made that game, right?http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif)
I cannot confirm if those glitches appear if I play with US subs (usually I don't play, I like only the German ones)
Anyway...if someone has an idea to get rid of those ugly shadows it would be most appreciated.

OMG... my problem is not the shadows...
It is the ALL THE DAMN AIRPLANES!!!!!!
If I wanted to fight aircraft, I would have bought a flight sim. Whoever in their bloody mind at Ubi put in so many aircraft must have a fetish for aircraft... but... surprise surprise... SH4 is... A UBOAT/SUB sim... not a fricken aircraft sim.
Take out ALL the bloody aircraft and put some boats or subs into the game! Sheesh. With all the enemy aircraft in the game I never see one allied aircraft or see dogfights of the good guys fighting the bad guys in the air.
I will NEVER EVER buy another Uboat/Sub sim from Ubi again.
Can anyone tell me if there are any other Uboat/Sub sims that dont have so many fricken enemy aircraft? SH4 is NO fun at all like this. Yes I am ****ed off!!!! I paid good money for a UBOAT/SUB sim and I expect to play a UBOAT/SUB sim!!... and not some stupid sim where you spend 90% of your time avoiding enemy aircraft.

Havta to agree with you, Amanda. The planes can become quite annoying. There is a small mod made by a gentleman named Webster. It's called Better Air Patrols for v1.4 and v1.5. You can find it here (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=473). I use it myself and it works very well. It doesn't eliminate the planes but it reduces the number. After all, planes are a part of the game, both on the Atantic and the Pacific. BTW, it is JSGME ready.

tambor, I agree with you that aircraft were a part of things and they were a bother to real Uboat pilots back in the day... but come on now... whenever I play a flight sim, I never come across any Uboats/Subs... and you know why? because they are flight sims.

Ever since I started playing on computers I have had a fascination with sims, and the idea of a sub/uboat sim..well... it gave me goose bumps just thinking about it. Then one day in a store I ventured into the software department and low and behold I saw SH 4 on the shelf. I thought "Wow.. finally!!! a uboat/sub sim". Needless to say, I snatched it up quick. I could not wait to get home and install it. I quickly learned to play but I soon became very disappointed in it. There were way too many enemy aircraft to avoid and SH 4 did not have a dynamic campaign (where one patrol did not have any effect on upcoming patrols and you could affect the outcome of your career depending how good or bad you did).
What is this "JSGME ready"? What does that mean? I am not a computer geek. I am just a gamer. I play games. I dont have the smarts or patience to modify. Please dont tell me I have to modify something or add something to SH 4. I will sooner trash the game than have to do that. If Ubisoft cant come out with a product that is complete and no modifications need to be made with it, then Ubisoft does not deserve my support.

The JSGME is a small utility you use to install mods into SHIV. You can find it here (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=123908). If you need some help in understanding out how the JSGME works you can find here (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/6421019045/m/5181035206). If you require any more help, just ask. That's what we're here for. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

If you have a little patience you'll find that SHIV will more than surpase your expectations. There is a great bunch of people in these forums more than willing to lend you a helping hand, all you have to do is ask. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Thank you for your help tambor, but seeing that I have to modify the game in order to enjoy it, I will delete it from my computer and go in search of another Uboat/Sub sim that is more enjoyable. The sad thing about that is I waited years to finally find SH 4. I guess if I have to wait years more for another Sub sim, until another software company comes out with one, then so be it. In the meantime I will go back to flight sims and any other combat sims I can find.
*waves bye...*

Of course that is your choice. But I can tell you that you will find no better subsim than SHIV. If you chance your mind we're always here. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

You won't find another sub game that comes close to this. Almost every game comes out unfinished with bugs, the planes were about the only one left. Every game that comes out is usually patched over and over, so how do you even play anything. Most games come out now so they can be modded. Today that's a must.

We have the best modders I've seen in any game.
About every 3-6 months the game is improved over and over. The graphics in stock are OK, but with mods they become almost real....

The campaign may not be the best it can be in stock, but modders have fixed that also. The historical battles to a match, better equipment and crew as the campaign goes forward. Also, with the mods you can make the game realistic as you want. Nothing like getting in the middle of the Battle of Leyte and watch the surface ships duke it out why your doing your part.

Good luck.

It only takes 20 minutes to D/L a supermod (large mod package that covers all the weak points in the game) and figure out how JSGME works to install it. Taking those 20 minutes could lead to a year, (or years) worth of enjoyment. By not taking those 20 minutes or so, your only short changing yourself.
