View Full Version : Ping and does the host have the right to ask you to leave?

ininjai-US and I were in our server playing games this afternoon...
When someone joined. He said he his mate was comming. He started talking about how he had 250 Ping. We asked him to leave as we didn't want lag to effect the game on either side. He said that said that He and his mate wouldn't complain. We said it doesn't matter if you lag that will effect the outcome of teh game. Again we asked him to leave. He responded with...
"Typical Attitude. Europeans would never act this way."
What the H3ll is that. Is logic dead? Why should we be forced into a lag filled game and why is that wish bad attitude?
P.S. They were also using 3rd party VoiP.

He's european, he's a ******. And ******'s never ask you to leave because of your ping.

CT Game Browser just sucks. Pings don't work properly, since It's routed via Ubi.com's routers.
We should have someone design a 3rd party Game Browser with Friend List and stuff. (Maybe get the lobby chat room we've always wanted!)

I don't want this to turn into Euro vs American problem. I just do not understand how asking someone to leave over lag issues is a problem. Why deal with lag if you do not have to. I understand these guys wanted to see how they would do against -US. But come on be reasonable. How is a 300 ping game going to prove anything (other than how bad UBI is at net code)? No thank you.
I'll play a laggy game if I know who you are and have had good experiences in matches (i.e. common courtesy and friendship); I will play knowing that no one cares who wins. I play against Seefoo all the time and I know that both of us are going to gain or miss out on chances over lag. We have a laugh over it and move on. It sucks that the game is that way but we all know nothing can be changed.
Don't hate me just because I want to have even matches with as little lag as possible. I don't join servers where I know I will lag. It's common courtesy. Please do not throw a hissy fit if I ask you to leave.http://clan.scusualsuspects.com/pics/bolt.jpg

I believe that it is the host's enforceable prerogative to make these decisions. However, had I been host I would not have acted in the same way. I would at least give it a chance. Like M4 said, it may not be as it seems. What do you have to lose?
Worst case scenario: They complain and leave. But they said they wouldn't complain. Alternatively, you lose because of lag and they say "OMG WE PWN TEH -US," but we all know how superficial this is.
Best Case Scenario (assuming they lag): A match scenario as you described with Seefoo. It seems like they were willing to give you this courtesy and friendship, which you rejected.
It's your prerogative, but I would not have acted the same way.

I don't wanna start a new thread on this so here it goes. How many of u feel comfortable playing ranked games with a guy who has no games or time under his belt? Do we ask him to leave, do we leave, or do we play?

Token, play him. You'll know in the first 2 minutes of the game if he's any good.
Ontiopic: The host decides everything, if you are a hacker, if that was bs, if that was lag, if you are a noob and if your wearing a thing. This is all decided by the host and if you disagree, you're obviously wrong http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/crackwhip.gif

If they're lagging, then you've got the right to ask them to leave. Lag is annoying as hell and it'll screw with both parties. No need for you to deal with that.

Worse case senario is...
Playing in a laggy game. Period. Something I DID not want to do. He said his ping was high and we didn't want to mess around not having fun cause of lag. By your logic I have to spend 20 minutes (so both sides have Spy & Merc rounds), in a lag filled server. Not my idea of fun. Especialy, when in all reasonable likelyhood someone with high ping is going to lag. Why take the risk. They can join a server where there is a far fewer chance of lag.

I feel your pain.
Nobody wants to play as or against laggy players.

if you're the server, you make the rules. If no one wants to abide by them, they can leave. In your case chair, I completely agree with you. Laggy games make me hate this game SO MUCH. When you have lag you also get mad bs ****, warping, spikes, bull****, some more bull****, slow as ****, bull**** and more bs.

Well, I don't see what the problem is. I mean - the worst they could do to you is some BS lag charge.
On the other side - the players have to deal with bullets coming out a whole second after they are shot, missed grabs, slow responce to any triggerable event etc. etc.
If you want a fair game for them, yeah - ask them if there isn't another good server that's euro. If they want to play on 250 ping it's pretty much their problem, due to the stated differences.
On a side note - Europeans would never act this way, but would most certainly call you a "lagger" or complain about lag when they die(even when you have 50-80 ping).
P.S. They were also using 3rd party VoiP.
Wow, those evil sons of *****es refused to use Versus' crappy imported VoiP! They should be banned to Hell!

esp if they were already complaining- before the game even started. Not to mention the fact that they were running TS or something like that. If i could i would kick everyone that uses TS or Ventrillo out of my server, but that's 1/2 the community.
the point is, if someone joins and says 'omgzorz it's soooo laggy your ping is like 250 !!'
then omgzorz, leave.

omg i just tried 2 play vs and there were 4 servers all pinging 140 or higher. i go into the lowest ping server i can find and these two guys were talking in some weird language i can't tell what but i think it was german or russian maybe. they started the game and lucky my partner was pretty good he got 4 kills pretty quick on aqua. then a spy tried to come up to me and i tazed him and got my first kill! then i see him type omg tazer noob. w/e i'm used to idiots cuz i played cs. then i see his partner come out and i rushed him and knocked him over. then he said wtf lagger. i heard many made up words from cs but lagger was a new one and i lol'ed. my teammate got the last 2 kills and after the round i was kicked. that guy who said europeans never act bad doesn't know what he's talking about. i got kicked from a server in my first ever game of vs. is this the way all you guys act, or is it just europeans?
imo i think hosts can kick for w/e reason they want but they should try and be nice about it like u did. i think those european guys kicked me just b/c they lost the match and were sore losers b/c if the lag was that important they would've said something before the match like u did.

People get annoyed if you tell them to leave for lagging normally because they don't live in places like America with lots of people with computers so they can't get a non-laggy game because nobody in their country plays. I come from Australia, and there are about 15 Australians who play these days, so it's almost impossible to get a non-laggy game.

M4 was right when he said UBI.com is where the problem lies.
Try pinging www.ubi.com (http://www.ubi.com). My average was 202ms, while my ping to google is 12ms
EDIT- I pinged ubi.com again, and the average ping is now 82ms. Seems like their servers are jumping all over the place.

I hope you realize that you are testing a webserver and not ubi's virtual router.
