1st war patrol. 16 days out. South of Hokkaido. One Mutsuki destroyer sunk. Empty ocean. Christmas Eve. Patrol grid complete. Crew wants action. Grumblings about captain Holtz and his nose for IJN. Pushing south. Clock strikes midnight. Merry Christmas back home in Ohio. Here's hoping for some X-Mas presents in the next 24 hours. Normal watch for crew. They're itching for a fight. I leave the bridge to catch some shut-eye...

Hmmmm...

I may have to pass on this version.

I have a limited time to play, and spending it looking at empty ocean may not cut it.

Can I get the new ocean textures and still have a reasonable amount of target frequency?

Oh the targets are there.....but now you have to find them.....

Good Bye 100k club.....YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Hello to driving your boat like a boat and not the USS Schwartzenegger. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Holtz.....great report!

The traffic is reduced, but not insanely reduced, there are still literally many hundreds of merchants at sea most of the time. If it's too thin, I can easily change it, more feedback = good. The big difference is the lack of a zillion contact reports. I'm only on version 0.73 right now, I'm starting to grok the patrols, so the next versions will probably have an evolution of patrol areas to find the "good spots" over time.

My stuff is a little closer to the coasts (early war) than stock, later in the war... get closer to the beach http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

BTW, ships will actually go in and out of harbors, they can even spend the night, or a week, then leave. So if you get a zero speed contact report, they gotta come out sometime...

I've been playing this since, well, for a while. I can find ships enough to sink a few every patrol once I get to 42. It can be tough in december 41 though.

I'm gonna try to add a coastal layer at some point with ships tucking into coves overnight, etc. Would be better with some Sugar Baker Sugar, Fox Tare Dog, and Sugar Dog targets though. We need some sub 1000 ton shipping, it was very common.

Any 3d modders out there? I have pictures http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Yes he did! My first run out (testing), i ran into a two tin can patrol and got a few ashcans as a welcoming present from the land of the rising sun. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Sounds good to me. I'm glad that Ubi/devs listened to user feedback and removed wooden sampans and fishing boats from the radar, but the Pacific could use something between those guys and the big merchants.

Sorry I don't do 3D modeling and can't help with this.

I'm surpised no ones said anything about the tonnage reduction in merchants. I guess it's subtle enough.

Goodbye 100k club! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

I manage 10k patrols often enough, and I play manual TDC with hardcore torpedoes, so I have ~70% failure rate (and I don't use the deck gun). Before 1.3 I had the visuals tweaked on AI to see my scope, etc.

BTW I hope my post didn't come off as complaining. Just the opposite here!

I love Tater's campaign mod work to reduce the traffic. Like Lane said, it's about the hunt now. But I have to explain that to my crew, who are restless and pissed that they are spending their Christmas 1941 off the Japanese coast with only a Mutsuki to show for it!

With this mod, including the real ocean waves mod, SH4 now becomes the best WWII subsim ever in my view.

I am a huge AOD fan, and I really respect the work done on GWX in SH3, but I think that patched to 1.3 and with TM 1.4, SH4 now has the top spot.

When I see a merchant on this patrol I'll be in a position to comment! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I am heading closer to the beach for a look. I really think it's great that there aren't a zillion contact reports.
