http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif The fact that you have to appreciate is that Lebanon is no longer a country, and has not been so for awhile now. At best it is a balkanized state which appears to be a nation but is in fact ruled by as many as three or four major factions. Its now like that mess that became Yugoslavia after WWI. It will only get worse.

the middle east is a place of irony.. a place of worship and the persuit of inner peace. yet history and the present show otherwise. so to answer your question is it over? never really was and never will be in my opinion. what it should be is what its not. its the signature of humanity.

I agree, it is also a place of great passion and vengeance and where blood is shed in the name of God, God shows no mercy.
As with the Northern Ireland issue, there will always be an inner hatred which is handed down through generations, peace there is an illusion, there is no peace, only a brief exhaustion of emotion.
Long may it continue, for every minute that goes by more innocent lives are saved.

Peace? What kind of peace?

It's more important that a country and its people take responsibility for acts of hostility conducted from its soil. What Hizbollah did was nothing short of an act of war if it had been committed by the Lebanese Armed forces.

It is unacceptable for a sovereign government to claim it can do nothing about a political group that appears to have a foreign policy different to that of its own. Let Hizbollah become a full part of the government and/or armed forces of Lebanon (if its people so wish) so that, the next time Hizbollah strikes, Israel will know that a country has hostile intentions towards it and it can defend itself accordingly.

The same is true of so-called 'Palestine'. For many years the PLO was the 'government' while Hamas took on the mantle of terror. Now that Hamas is the 'government', other obscure groups take on the mantle of terror until they too get elected into government five years or so on (leaving yet other groups assume the mantle of terror) etc, etc, etc.

This cycle of politics arose because of the failure of Middle Eastern countries to defeat Israel militarily.

Leave Israel and its citizens alone. Live in peace with Israel. That is in itself is guarantee of peace.
